  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tech Package 5

The price of lumber would sky rocket if the wood on that dash was real.

Can you say, too much?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
LOL! :D I agree. It looks horrid to me, but some people actually prefer the look.

I would have to add 36 cans of Pledge Furniture Polish to my shopping list.

I'm sure some are upset because they can't get that dash with the Tech Package, but it's not for me!

Been in a Rolls Royce or Bentley (amongst others) lately? heh! Now THAT is a lot of wood! But I like it. :)

Yes, but their wood is real as evidenced by the impeccable grain and finish. I'm okay with plood as long as it's:

A) A reasonable facsimile
B) Tastefully and sparingly applied

Big swatches of plood are incredibly tacky to me. It's like plasti-chrome hubcaps, fake Rolexes or the Eiffel Tower in Vegas. It's a dressed up cheap imposter of the real thing. To me, the "wood" dash is simply trying too hard to (unsuccessfully) portray a certain visage.

I'm with jwaters943! Wood is good if it is real. Hell, it's a display of expert craftsmanship. Plood is good if it looks real and is used sparingly.

I vote for the plood. But then I love my velvet elvis paintings in every room. Do Rolex watches turn your wrist green? Uh-Oh...

The dealer in the ad told me it was the first V8 production unit.

This guy has said some pretty bizarre stuff about these cars, that are now coming true. I'm beginning to wonder if he has an inside track.

Hyundai, like all auto manufacturers assign a VIN when production is scheduled. KMHGC46F99U004557 is this cars.

1) 4557 is before 5000+ which is the VINs being produced now. I figured it was produced last week or the maybe even the week before.
2) The status changes to inbound when the vehicle is shipped. Doesn't give an ETA.
3) The estimates I used were from friends that import from China. Not Korea. I'm sure these estimates are off. Probably much harder to get a car through customs.

I'm hoping that when this car arrives it is a V8 and there will be others following it. I have not found any other V8s that have a VIN assigned yet.

My two best friends, are large Hyundai dealer sales managers. One was my best man, and I was his. In June Hyundai told them each they could order up to 5 V8s. Since then Hyundai, has cancelled 9 of them. Neither has received any V6s yet. The V6s are still showing inbound. They are frustrated also.

If 5000 Genesis's have been built that would be about 7 per dealership. I don't see that. I drive about 1800 miles for business a month. About 30 Hyundai dealers on this route. Only 7 have V6 Genesis's. All are asking a premium for them that have them.

I don't know any of the above to be true. I haven't seen the computer screens or have any inside knowledge. This is the best that I can come up with from what I've been told. I don't know if this car will be a V8 or a V6 when it arrives. I hope it is a V8, then maybe more will follow. As you can see from the ad it states a V8.

Patrick Hyundai has been uncanny with it's info they told me. I don't know these people and have only spoke with them on the phone.

So far they are spot on. {insert disclaimer here}

Just giving you the best information I have. Take what you want and forget the rest. Time will tell how accurate it is.
Hey thanks for the explaination and your time!

I have seen three wheel options on the Genesis. There are the ones on the base model. Then, there are the premium plus wheels. Last, the V8's that were at the Discovery tour in Dallas had a different wheel. I didn't count the spokes but I think they had more spokes. No chrome. The look a little like the M35 wheels.

I prefer chrome as well. It's surprising to see that most luxury vehicles - like the Lexus LS460, Mercedes S550 and BMW 750 come with these satin finish wheels...

I'm hoping Hyundai offers chrome wheels as an accessory. Speaking of which, I still haven't seen anything in the way of OEM/dealer-installed accessories (e.g. carpeted trunk mat, splash guards, etc.). Time is money Hyundai....get the ball rolling already! ;)

If you go to hyundaiusa.com, select Genesis, then "build your own", after you get to the Options page, down at the bottom is an accessory selector. Granted, not much yet, but this is where stuff shows up:
