  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2014 Benz that will steer and brake on the highway. At speeds under 25 mph on a congested highway, I don't even have to put my hands on the wheel. Over that, it prefers that I at least make an occasional adjustment. Bottom line, just amazing.

I drove a Genesis and thought it felt very close to the E-Class, but does the Genesis tech option provide this level of auto driving?

Yes. For braking, you want to make sure the model has AEBS (automated emergency braking system) and for the steering you want to make sure the model has Lane-keep-assist/lane-departure-warning. Make sure you at least get the Tech package with the 3.8, or any of the 5.0 models.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LKA only works above about 38 MPH.

Which Benz? This description is for a CLS:

"Optional safety equipment includes the Lane Keeping Assist system, which alerts the driver by simulating a rumble strip vibration in the steering wheel if the car drifts from its lane without the turn signals on. Part of the Lane Tracking Package, it operates at speeds above 37 mph via a system that recognizes lane markings, thanks to a small camera in the windshield and a computer that analyzes the video images.
The Lane Tracking Package also includes Blind Spot Assist, which monitors both blind spots behind and to the side of the vehicle. Whenever a turn signal is activated with a vehicle in the blind spot, the driver gets visual and audible warnings."

Doesn't seem to be anything about Active Steer. Would love to know specifically what you have on yours. As for the Genesis, it is above 38mph and it does shut off if you take your hands off the wheel for longer than a few seconds (10 maybe?).

He mentions E-Class towards the end of his post, but it's not explicit that that's the Benz he's referring to. That's what I assumed in any case, but part of my job is to connect fuzzy requirements from end-users to functional specifications and technical design documents.

I have the 2014 E350. The package is called Driving Assistance or something like that. It will do autonomous driving at any speed and is absolutely amazing.

I just picked up a new Genesis with Sig and Tech. I love the Genesis. I prefer how it rides over the E350 (Luxury, not Sport). I think the Genesis is quieter or the same. But the none of the driving related tech is as well done or impressive as in the E350. That said the infotainment tech is much much better.

New Owner, Tech and Signature

I have an MB 2014 E350 and have to say, the Genesis is more comfortable, quieter and smoother riding. The driving aids like lane departure, blind spot detection are not as advanced But it more than makes up for it with better navigation, better speech recognition and BlueLink.

At CES last week, it is clear that Hyundai will be quickly catching up to Mercedes in the autonomous driving department.

And 45K sure beats the 68K. Much less maintenance and BlueLink is about 1/3 the cost of MB.

Welcome and enjoy the Genny! I'm sure the E350 is a nice ride too, so hopefully as time goes on you can keep the comparisons forthcoming, positive, negative, or otherwise.

I was testing my new Genesis this morning. It does indeed actively steer to stay in the lane. Like the E, it does ask me to put my hands on the wheel if I'm being bad. The E seems a tad better at seeing the lines, but the G seems to steer faster.

Since it is still new to you, note that you can adjust when the Active Steer kicks in, either ahead of drifting over or after. It definitely makes a difference. You can also set it just to vibrate for Lane Departure warning only (or turn it off altogether with the dash button)
