  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay, I know a couple people were wondering what Hyundai changed in order to fit the Nav controller. After sitting in a Tech Package equipped Genesis and comparing it with mine, here is what I've found:

-The cupholders are a tiny bit smaller. Not enough to worry about IMO. Generally speaking they still seem plenty big, if fact they might be better in certain cases. My cupholders do a pretty poor job of holding 16.9 oz water bottles. Due to their large size, the water bottle usually tips over during aggressive driving.

-The cupholders have been moved rearward. With the lid flipped open it tucks under the front lip of the armrest. In order to close the lid you have to grasp the lid from the side and not the top.

-The center armrest has been shrunk ever so slightly. This initally concerned me, but it felt comfortable. Then again, I only sat in the car and did not drive it. On the plus side, the armrest on the Tech model has an upper tray not found on other Genesis models. It looked quite useful and large enough to hold an iPod, cell phone, and pens, etc.

As for the Nav and controller itself, I quite liked it. The controller feels like a quality piece (e.g. nice and solid) and turns with fluid "clicks". The screen is large and clear with good graphics. In terms of visual appeal, I'd say this is one of my favorite NAV systems on the market along with Infiniti's system. Only time will tell if it's as good as Honda/Acura's NAV system in terms of functionality and accuracy.

Thanks jwaters943! I finally figured it out this past weekend after sitting in both the Tech and non-Tech.

In the non-Tech isn't the driver side cupholder slightly larger than the passenger side?

I was a little concerned about the slightly smaller armrest in the Tech Pack, but it actually works pretty well due to the fact that you can rest your hand on the control. knob.

Yes, the cupholder on the drivers side is a bit larger. I just noticed that yesterday as well. I think I actually prefer the Tech Package armrest....I doubt it will fit on a non-Tech Package center console though. :(

Jwaters:

Thanks for keeping the Gen community informed. And also a big thanks for educating the snobs at the ClubLexus forum :D One day they will Rethink Everything.

On a personal note, one of the most inticing and attractive qualities of the Gen and Hyundai in general is the absense of ugly snob appeal that Lexus, MB, BMW and Audi communities have.
