  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just wanted to post this and see if any other new 5.0 RSPEC owners have used the ESC button. I was driving mine home from buying it and was checking everything out. Ipulled up to a stop light, pushed the ESC button and mashed the gas and voila, it lit up the tires. My 2011 4.6 didn't do this. They actually made the RSPEC so that it totally disables the electronic stability control. Yea, I know it's a luxury sedan and I'm 58 and need to act my age but MAN!!! That's fun. That always irritated me about the 4.6. Why even have the button if it doesn't really disable it?
Anybody else play with theirs yet?

Yes... and I hate to break it to you... but it doesn't disable it completely. It just numbs it down a tad. There is a workaround HERE, but I haven't tried it yet (nor know if anyone else has confirmed it works).

There IS a noticeable difference with it off, though, I'll give you that. When I think I'm gonna need it, I press that little sucker (which turns off the smart cruise control btw).

;)

Yes I've seen the fuse pull post before but never tried it. Didn't know it didn't give me full power on my RSPEC though. That's alright though, if I can smoke em, I'm satisfied.

Thanks on the info re: the smart cruise

There's a difference between stability control and traction control. Turning off the traction control can be fun at stoplights. Turning off the stability control can be dangerous to your health. The 03 Vette has two options.

One is to turn everything off. That can get exciting in a hurry if you're spinning the rear wheels and one catches more traction than the other.

The other option is to turn off the traction control only, but maintain the stability control in a less aggressive mode. It makes for the best times at a track day.

Does anyone actually know what happens when the ESC button is engaged?

I thought I read that if you push the ESC button once, and then hold it in for 10 seconds on a second push it deactivated everything?

Funny thing is, you can mash the pedal from a stop with ESC on and still spin the tires. :)

Yep, caught me by surprise the other day when it was wet outside. Took off from a stop sign with a little too much authority and the rear end decided to wander off on me. The esc took care of it before it got out of hand. The 2010 4.6 never did this as the esc was instantaneous so to say. Kinda preferred the 2010 in this respect. Tried mashing it yesterday with esc off, tires squeal for about 1 second and then nanny shows up. :(
