Ok here's another one of those redux topics. This time it's about the almighty front hexagon grille.
There was a video with the original design manager John krsteski stating that the grille was a mesh of the new hexagon design direction and the old "wings" of the first gen grille. Hence, we get the slight curvature of the horizontal slots.
Many believe that it's a knock off of what Audi originated...Maybe not.
Given John Krsteski's assigned task, I think he nailed it. Yes Audi popularized the drop down grille, but John Krsteski took it a step further. He managed to take it a step further, and that's a pretty big task if you ask me. I mean, how are u supposed to blend wings and a hexagon?
well, not only did he pull it off, IMO he nailed it.
How is it different from audi you may ask? first the distinguishing factor is how the grille completely drops down at an almost 90 degree right angle. Unlike audis grille which slopes into the hood. It punches out more aggressively than the audi style does. the entire front face comes off soo tight, chiseled, confident and extremely handsome looking. Secondly it's the curved slots. the slots almost look like its corresponding to the wind as the car moves forward. It adds to the drop down element of the grille.
As big as the grille is, it manages to be well balanced, porportional and minimal to the total front end look, strong. It's kinda deja vu yet so new, kinda messing with your head because it's so fresh, yet it's deja vu.
