  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A few of us sat in a V8 Genesis over the weekend - and I don't believe any of us felt a difference between the leather of the V6 and V8. It felt the same to us. If there's any difference at all, it's bearly noticeable. Has anyone actually noticed a big difference? If so - tell us about it...

Not much difference in the padding in the seat but as for touching the leather the Premium was softer to the touch like silky smooth or even.

The V6 leather has a rougher texture feel, to me.

I immediately noticed the difference once I sat in the V8 for the first time. Had I not felt the difference immediately, I would probably be driving a V6 now.

Any chance you could be more descriptive about what that difference was? Was it simply the texture of the leather/touch of it, and if so, what was so different as compared to the V6's texture/touch?

Any visible differences? (ie: more or less perforation).

I've sat in both and couldn't tell the difference. The V8 Premium Leather may be slightly softer to the touch but definitely not a mind-lowing or deal-breaking difference.

I would probably prefer the V6 leather. If it is not quite as soft as the V8 premim leather, it may be easier to clean up if one of my little one decide to make a mess..........nah, that would never happen!

Visually, the grade of leather in the V8 is a noticeably finer grain. To the touch, the V6 is coarse in comparison to the buttery soft V8 leather. Here are photos to see if you can spot the difference:

This is the V8. Notice how smooth.

This is the V6. Notice that you can make out imperfections in the leather on the rear passenger side seat.

I would say the V6 leather would be more kid friendly then the V8.

Without more to go on, I think I'd have to agree. The V8 leather is so soft, you just feel as if it is more delicate whereas the V6 leather feels more coarse and tough.

The first thing I do when I open a car's door is feel the leather. Unless both cars are side by side, I just can't tell the difference.. I don't like Toyota leather. Their "Lexus" leather is the best. The Genesis V6 leather is close to that of the Lexus. The V8? I just can't tell the difference. If I can ever get both cars side by side, I'll do a better comparison...

I agree about the V6 leather being like Lexus leather, it feels exactly the same as my friends RX350 leather.

As far as being tough, I guess time will tell, but I do know that Berkline sells two grades of leather in their home theater recliners. The "better" grade is considerably softer than the standard leather. "Buttery" is used to describe it. What Berkline says is that although it is softer, the preimum leather is actually tougher and handles wear better than the standard grade. In four years of use, I have seen absolutely no signs of any wear on my Berklines, so I would assume that would not be a problem, and perhaps a benefit on the Genesis.

Dang! I wish my V8: would get here! :(

I don't think anyone is going to make a purchase decision on the grade of leather in the V8 versus the V6. Both leather grades are high quality.

It is just another small advantage to differentiate the two models to justify the $2K premium of the V8. Chrome accents-softer leather-lighted door plates-wood steering wheel- winged badge? The performance of the Tau engine remains the main advantage.

While the engine would remain the primary difference, I don't think some of the others, like 18" wheels and bigger/better brakes should be discounted to the level of being on par with "leather quality".

Being that the leather on the V6 does feel similar to that of a Lexus RX350 - I expected the V8 (since I heard it was different) to feel more like that of a Lexus LS.. Before recently, the "LS" leather wasn't available on all Lexus models. Now it is.. In any event, there used to be a BIG difference between the leather of an LS and the rest. That's a very noticeable difference to me...
