If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The mystery about transmission hard shift is finally revealed.

Hyundai issued a TSB for HARSH 2~3, 3~4 OR 4~5 UPSHIFT back in November 2021.

The culprits are two solenoids which Genesis upgraded and they need to be installed instead of the old ones.

The bulletin describes the procedure to replace the 35R and 4&OD solenoids for as shift flare and/or harsh shift during the 2~3, 3~4 or 4~5 upshift.

Attached is the TSB copy which illustrates the part numbers.

Good luck.

No G80 owners who has such rough transportation shift?

Husam,

This TSB looks like it only cover 1st Gen G80's, I'm having similar issues on my 2018 Sport with the Electronic tranny, which as a previous owner of an 1st Gen issue that I had NO issues with, I've truly come to despise, is there anything or threads on them?

It's the same TSB for 2017 and up, (electronic tranny's).

Re-Attached.

However, you may need to check the ATF if it's due for replacement along with the filter.

Thank you,
H.

Many thanks Husam. My dealer is denying it, but that's nothing new, they been in denial about my Warranty Repairs since day 1..

I know it's a tough ride to have the dealer do useful steps towards a favorable fix. My suggestion is to have ATF and the filter replaced first.. If that does not work, then the dealer has no choice but to replace the solenoids. A super good scenario is to have the solenoids replaced with the ATF at the same time.

Even better advice Husam, email just sent with VIN and TSB attached, 'll let you know how it goes, thanks again.

Also know the issue manifests as lazy downshifts as well. Resulting in more noticeable "thunks" especially at low speed (ie parking lot speeds)

My 2017 3.8 has been doing this exact thing for a while. After a month and a half I finally had my appointment at the dealer, took the tsb with me. Unfortunately the dealer said I need a transmission…nice $7500 quote 🤢

Just had the 2 solenoids replaced by the dealer under warranty for my 2017 G80 3.8 AWD (98,000 miles). Had the same issue with hard shifts. They tried to reset the computer first, but that didn't work.

I have a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3 TT. with less than 60K miles on it and the transfer case is shot. I noticed hard shifting prior to this and then the car came to a hard stop. I immediately brought it to my mechanic who gave me the news. I brought it to Genesis Brooklyn (NY) and after seven weeks of waiting for service they inform me that there was a hole in the case and was leaking fluid. I live on a private street and park directly in front of my home each time and never noticed any leak of any kind on our (2021) recently repaved concrete street. Also my mechanic said the transfer case was "sweaty" but did not notice any holes. Genesis is telling me that I hit something to create this and it's not covered.

Did you find the solution?

Hey Husam, I’ve got a 2012 3.8 sedan auto. I had the same issues with a transmission flare as well. I found there was a pretty big leak from the transmission. Got it cleaned up and put more fluid in. The flare is still there but very minor and the shifting is still a little rough. I ordered a valve body with the tcm on eBay, do you think I should still replace it? Or should I just do the solenoids. I will also replace the transmission pan.

Has the fix resolve the issue for you?

Your Dealer sounds a lot like mine, like they took a page out of the Bill Clinton handbook; Deny! Deny! Deny! Mine is terrible, but some members seem to be luckier than us.
