  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Of course what better way to follow up the yellow DRL redux than with the shift knob redux :)

when I first saw the 2nd gen genesis in the LA car show , I was pretty taken by the design and proportions. It was the "gotta have it" car for me. I could careless what the shiftknob looked like.

then when I saw the interior and sat in one in a dealer showroom, I thought to myself...."hey this is a nice fit", with my left arm on the steering wheel and my right arm resting on the shift knob.

fast foward about a year when I noticed the Elantra had the same identical shift knob!! I was like whoa, that's the same exact shift knob! But the thought came and went, the sharing of the shift knob with the elantra really didn't make me think of the Genesis any less. It was still my gotta have it car.

I still appreciate Hyundai's smooth shifting of the shiftknob, It's better than all American cars out there and on par with the Japanese. But hints of the Elantra come into my head ever so faintly every time I use it. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I will always wonder why Hyundai gave their Genesis line the same exact shiftknob as the Elantra. I guess if they are going to cut costs then it's best to cut them on the shiftknob right ? hey I'm not complaining. Hyundai has offered so much in terms of everything else that I can overlook the elantra shift knob :)

All car companies do this..GM is probably the biggest offender.

I notice small things like this too and it's true, most all car companies do this with not just the shift knob, but a lot of other stuff. If the parts are sturdy and work well, I think this is a good thing. Having a standard creates solidity with the brand style and people become familiar with it. Someone who owns the Elantra or Sonata might eventually graduate to the Genesis. Knobs and switches having the same look, touch and feel is important for comfort.

ya I know a lot of car companies use things like the same power window switches and the same engine start switches...but the same shift knob is a little odd. lexus doesnt use the same shift knob as the corollla.

I mean no big deal, the 2nd gen is sooo bad azz that a shift knob isn't going to break the deal.

I recall reading where Aston Martin was using some switchgear from the Taurus when Ford owned them... So not that odd :). Besides, the shifter in the Genesis is very nice - what more would you want?

Can be seen both ways. Maybe the shift knob in the Gen II was snagged for the new Elantra and not the other way around??

What came first, the chicken or the egg? :D

for me its as simple as the shift knob looking like it belongs in the car. I believe it fits well with the interior and have no complaints. I probably never would have known the elantra shared the same shift knob unless I rented one or got one as a loaner.

So elantrA has a leather wrapped shift knob? Movin on uh up!

My other car Elantra GT has a black knob....the Genesis has a black knob with chrome trim:)
