  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New to the forum here and found it to be very helpful, and hope to get some advise here.

Test drove the brand new 2012 3.8 at the first dealership, love it, but the dealer was asking 4500 off MSRP since the car has all options. Since I wasn't in a hurry of making decision, so I left.

Went to second dealership and drove their loaner - 8000 mile, 14months old 2012 4.6 v8. I found the car is nosier than the 3.8, don't think it was the rattle noise, pro more of road and wind noise. don't know why. I think I will go back for the 2013 3.8 when it became available in a few weeks.

Also saw a used 3.8 base, 17k miles, asking $27k, and I am not too sure if it worth it since I had received quote for $2.9k on a new 3.8 base. Called the used car guy and was told he is willing to budget, but still not sure.

So, questions:
1. what's the reasonable price for the used I saw? I can wait until next Jan. if need to.
2. what should i be looking/checking for this used car?
3. in the past experience, how much discount will i get for a 2012 3.8 new if i wait until next Jan.?
Thanks,

There is no way for us to know the best price for a used car. There are some websites that have info on that, but be careful about pricing the Genesis Base model, since their historical info may be based on other trim levels. Based on what you have said, I would definitely go with new, especially since 10 yr - 100K mile drivetrain warranty is only good for the original owner (unless car is sold by dealer and is CPO).

Regarding 2012 vs 2013 if bought in Jan, it just depends on how many 2012's are left and how bad a dealer wants to get rid of them. If you are only going to keep the car 3-4 years, 2013 is probably better from a deprecation standpoint, but they are pretty much the same car in other respects.

Welcome aboard. So, there will probably be tons of opinions and speculations that follow me. But, I can at least share my experience and comments...

I just bought a new 2012 3.8 Tech Package service loaner about a month ago. I got it with about 3,500 miles and spent something like $34.5 and got super-low interest. There were a bunch of incentives at the time. I imagine that discounts would continue until the 2012 inventory is all gone. I think my total discounts were almost $10K below MSRP, but that also included the fact that the car was not truly a new car.

Just gut feel, a 3.8 base for $27K seems high. Plus, I would bet it is a former rental car. Check that.

1. My gut is that a used 2012 should be at least $10K and maybe $12K below MSRP.
2. Don't get a former rental car.
3. My hunch is the discounts I had would not be that much different in January, if there were any 2012s left available then.

Getting a new 2012 in January will involve very limited supplies, limited color choices, and I would say worse availability in general compared to previous years' January's partially due to a strike in Korea this past year which reduced production.

One thing I noticed is that the base model has a lower rate of depreciation than the loaded models, so that is a little more incentive to buy new if you are thinking about the base model. Or more incentive to buy used if you are interested in one with premium and tech packages.

thanks all for input. I saw hyundai have 0% for their 2012's and i will see if i can snap a good deal out of it. thanx again.
