  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all - please let me introduce myself. My name is Adam and I have been perusing the forums for a couple weeks. I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger on a used 2012 RSPEC last weekend. Got mine with 11K miles on it and so far I love the car.

I've spent a little time with the NAV system and so far it's still easier to use my Garmin. It does seem pretty accurate but inputting the address is a bit of a chore. I like the Lexicon audio system - probably needs a small sub to really complete the sound. The backup camera and parking sensors seem pretty accurate and I enjoy those features. The AC seems a bit on the light side but I guess that's pretty common.

Now for the reason I bought the car - the engine. I love effortlessly passing someone on the highway, with plenty of power on reserve. The 8 speed transmission seems great for acceleration but is a bit funky after you really hammer on the gas pedal and let off. The throttle is responsive and I seldom need to use all the power stacked under the hood. Really loving how quick this car is.

What is it with Mustangs? They seem to enjoy allowing you the pleasure of listening to their exhaust at a stoplight but have a dazed look on their face after you leave them behind. Albeit this was a 2009-2010 and didn't have the newer 5.0 engine.

All in all, very satisfied with the purchase. Can't wait to get out this weekend. I think I will use the advice from another thread and get out the clay bar followed by a coat of wax.

Enjoy. Tip= get a micro usb drive and load your music at 320k on it for fantastic sound. I have a 16 gig with about 2800 songs on it.

Welcome to the form and Genesis experience. :welcome:

Besides being a powerhouse and enjoying the horses under the pedal (I’m running a 3.8 and there is plenty of horses under the pedal) I’ll bet like me, you will enjoy pulling up to the regular gas pump instead of the premium.

The difference between a Yukon and a Genesis should prove to be quite stark in all aspects of quality, performance and reliability.

Enjoy your new ride. :D

Since you mentioned performing a clay bar cleaning on your car here is a site you might enjoy for tips on detailing that “Black” car.

Southern Boy, that website had a ton of information, thank you! I worked at a carwash in high school and I thought I knew about how to maintain a vehicles paint. Guess not :) Sounds like the first clay bar, polish, sealant, wax job could be an all day affair. I just ordered the Porter Cable 7424XP to help me in that process.

That day will be well worth it. Trust me.

Congrats on your new car. Nice choice - you have great taste!

:D

Greetings and welcome to the forum. Enjoy your new Genesis!

Just a word of advice, Go very slow with that new buffer. Even professional detailers screw up trying to do paint corrections.

Do whatever you’re going to do, by hand first, because you can always come back and redo the car after you're sure on how to use the buffer, the different pads and compounds, and you might not need a buffer at all.

Here’s a Genesis owner that did it right.

And here’s a genesis owner that had his car screwed up buy a so called professional.

There are a lot of people :grouphug: on this site that are very knowledgeable and have been there and done that, so ask a lot of questions and do a lot of searches first, because once you have burned through the clear coat its body shop time and IMPO It’s hard to beat a factory paint job.

Welcome to the forum! Enjoy the quip about 'Stangs and your username.

Nice choice on the PC and heed Southern Boy's advice.. I often start people on an old hood from a Merc that I have in my garage, I purposely add some finger nail scratches or use the edge of an old cd jewel case and then I let the 'newbie' try out various pads, polishes, waxes...just to get a feel for it. Even though it is a DA Orbital, it does not mean it can't cause harm (just not as quick a normal rotary can).

Warning: You have clearly stepped down the detailing path...many catch the 'bug'. Some like to chalk it up to being a hobby/passion, some can show restraint... my significant other says it's a habit/obsession, feeds my OCD, and takes away from the vacation fund. :)

AutoGeek.net is another good site (when running sales) for comparison sake and shhh, they always offer F/S with the code 'freeship' , no matter how little you spend.

Autopia.org is a great forum w/ lots of info/guides/detailing guru's

as is, detailersdomain.com for another store/comparison option

Look for sales, and sign up for newsletters...there is almost always a sale to be had amongst them (or price matching upon request)

Cheers & congrats on the R-spec!

Thanks for all the responses fellas. I think I will start out this weekend with just a hand wax before I get into the clay bar, polishing, sealing, etc. For someone who is not going to polish or seal on this go around, would you all recommend using the clay bar + lube before the hand wax or just the hand wax?

Thanks

-A
