While the car is away getting debadged (GV60 from the rear), PPF (Xpel Stealth), and ceramic coated (Ceramic Pro PPF top coat and wheels), thought I would share some thoughts from my first 1,000 miles. Overall impression, it's a fantastic car and both my wife and I are very happy with it.
As for details, in no particular order...
We bought a black on black Performance AWD. We live in the city without a garage so the car sits in the sun and gets hot as hell. First thing I did with the car was get 70% Kavaca nano-ceramic IR tint on every piece of glass. The tint has made the cabin much more comfortable and now we consider opening the moonroof.
The GV60 is not an SUV. I'm coming from a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland - that's an SUV. I'm still getting used to being careful when opening the doors near sidewalks because the car sits quite low. Also, the GV60 turning radius is quite large considering the small size of the car - our Jeep had a tighter radius. Our Jeep would automatically turn on heated/vented seats depending on preset outside temperatures - would be nice if the GV60 did this (maybe it does?). While the GV60 feels wide, we can't fit an adult between two booster seats - we could in the Jeep.
The GV60, like its Ioniq 5 and EV6 siblings, is a charging beast. I've charged seven times, six at 150kW EA stations and once at a 40a Juicebox. I find charging at the EA stations to be very easy (always using the app), and consistently pull 130-170kW from the EA stations I go to. I tend to charge between 20-40% and charge to 80-100% depending on what driving I have planned after the charge. Interestingly, the manual doesn't say to leave the car at 80%, but does say NOT to use DC fast charging often.
I have a hard time keeping the car over 3 mi/kWh. After getting the car, it was difficult not to drive it with a heavy foot. Even after the first few hundred miles, I can only manage about 2.8 - 3.1. This could be due to idling while dropping my kids off at two different day camps - it's been too hot to turn the car off. Hoping to see an improvement once school reopens in September.
Rear visibility out of the GV60 is poor, especially at night if your kids keep the shades up - would be nice if the shades were electric. Related to rear visibility, I've driven in heavy rain and did not have an issue without a rear wiper. Likely because I've come to rely on the tech and cameras for rear and side views. Also, while I like the frameless rearview mirror, my wife finds it difficult to adjust.
The interior is really well done - it's why we bought the GV60 instead of waiting for an Ioniq 5 Limited. The materials look and feel great. It's very quiet. The design is modern, but not sparse. The seats are extremely comfortable and the driver's adjustments seem endless. There are plenty of buttons within reach, no need to get lost in sub menus on the screens. However, after a month in the car, I've come to question the location (need) of the start/stop button - it's the least convenient of all the buttons.
I like the exterior of the car much better in person than I did in pictures. I like the slimmed down Genesis grille, dark headlights (which are great), tiny front quarter panels, and third brake light. I do not like the black plastic A, B, and C pillars, and I don't like that the wing is plastic. The Performance AWD 21" wheels look great but are a pain to clean. The Genesis puddle lights are great, would be nice if the head or tail lights had a lock/unlock or welcome animation of some sort.
Connected services/app could be great, things seem to work intermittently. Example, two nights ago I requested images of the car - request failed. Did the same tonight, and it worked. After getting the images, I tried to locate the car - the location on the map was different (wrong) from the location on the pictures. Our key card does not work. Hyundai/Genesis need to make improving the reliability of these services if they want us to consider paying for them in a few years.
Questions for the group:
If DC fast charging is bad, is charging at 150 any better for the car than charging at 350?
Is remote start a connected service feature that will go away if we don't pay after the free trial?
Can I have the seat massage the driver on demand? Seems it only comes on after an hour in the car...
Can the driver or passenger seat headrests be adjusted front to back?
what accessories you buying? I'm waiting for all weather mats.
Any questions for me?
