  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm considering a purchasing either a 2011 4.6L or 2012 4.6L and I'm looking for feedback on how much ride/handling improvement you found, if any, on rougher roads (especially on a 2010 or 2011 4.6L) when you switched over to Conti DWS's. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I swapped out the Dunlops on 3rd day of ownership of my '11 4.6 for Bridgestone Serenity's and noticed a huge and immediate improvement in ride quality.

I have the Continental DWS ExtremeContact tires, and the biggest differences I've found is that they're much quieter and tend to have a smoother ride than the Dunlop's. They also have less tendency to hydroplane and have more traction than the Dunlops. About the only thing that the Dunlops have going for them is the sidewall on the Dunlop's look better.

I have the same tire with about 15000 miles on them and must say that the Bridgestones are 200% better in every way than the Dunflops.

I drove on the Dunflops for 21k miles. I just switched over to Conti ExtremeContact DWS and they are amazing. As Aquineas said, the ability to eat puddles and rain is awesome, and they're amazingly quiet compared to the Dunlops. The only complaint I have is that the sidewall is SLIGHTLY less rigid - if I take a corner at speed, I can feel the car sort of... give a little. It never feels like they're going to lose traction, they just give ever so slightly and perceptibly. I find it a good trade off - I actually feel more confident of the Contis than the Dunlops, overall.

Ditto. I've had the Contis for about 20K miles now and am pleased. No signs of wear yet.

I also switched out my balding Dunflops for DWS. As already stated, they are great in the wet and quieter overall, especially over highway joints and lateral ridges. The wear rate is sooooo much better than the OEM Dunlops.
The only negative is a slightly less sharp turn-in when cornering enthusiasticly.

I am hoping that the conti dw summer version on this tire will address that as well. In SoCal there is really no need for all season. As soon as I get them on the car I will provide feedback.

Cheers

I wonder how the Conti compare to the new Michelin on the 2012

I think you've just hit my $40K question ... how does the ride on a rough road on a 2011 4.6L with Conti's compare to a stock 2012 4.6L? If they are quite close I probably will go with the 2011.

Actually, there are two similar questions:

1) On a 2011 or earlier, how do the Contis compare to the Michelins?

2) How does the 2011 Genesis with Contis compare to the 2012 Genesis with Michelins? (Your question.)

I haven't driven the '12 Genny, but I'd be really surprised if simply replacing the Dunlops on a 2011 would make it very close to a 2012 based on what I've read.
