  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Quick question - does the ZF tranny in the 4.6 blip the throttle and rev match on downshifts?

Thanks for any help on this.

No. The ZF used in the Hyundai is the same one used in the BMW 5/7 series until 2010.

It doesn't allow rev to red line (about 500 rpm short).
It doesn't allow you to hold gear (it auto upshifts when close to redline) even in manual mode.

This is not a sports car, it is considered a performance sedan. Hyundai is a long way from making a 4 door sports car ala Panamera from Porsche.

Having said that, The ZF holds gear nicely in manual mode for anything but redline, downshifts are crisp (I usually am already at WOT when downshifting)

best fun is the on/off ramps, anything listed at 45 can be taken at over 100mph (when Idon't have winter tires on)....

Not even the Genesis Coupe that is fitted with Steering Wheel Paddles for up/down shifting of the automatic transmission has the rev match and blip feature, which really surprised me. I think this would be a very nice feature to have on both Coupe & Sedan and would make the 'manual mode' more user friendly. A number of performance/luxury sedans are being fitted with this capability.

Thanks for the input.
How is throttle response ? Does it kick down a gear quickly when you need a burst of speed?

throttle response on the 4.6 is great, put the foot down and there is an immediate downshift(in auto mode). After about 1/2 second if the foot is still floored and 1 gear drop wasn't enough it drops another gear.
For MPG auto shifts into 6th by 40 mph, at which point 2nd is still a good gear for full throttle acceleration.

In lower gears traction is a problem, ECS nanny kicks in a lot, stickier tires should help.
