  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Its time to but tires for my 2015 Genesis 3.8
Replacing the originals. I live in New York. I really need something good in snow and ice.
My mechanic recommended I go to 245/50-18 instead of the standard 245/45-18.
Would those fit in the car? The extra height would be nice. I do notice its easy to scrape the bottom front in certain driveways.
I would appreciate some recommendations on what to buy.

In general, you want to stay < 3% diameter differential of the OE tire size. 245/50-18 is just over 3% larger than OEM:

Having said that, if you don't care about speedometer accuracy, then it's fine.

When I loved in CT i put on Nokian WRG3 on two cars. Good for year round use but they have a real snow rating. They were designed for North America.

I don't know about the size difference

Just stick with the stock size. If you need more sidewall then go with 17in wheels and 245/50-17 tires. The Genesis seems to sit fairly close to stock size tires; it may bottom out(tires touch the fenders) on bumps with a nearly 1 inch taller tire.

Prob not a good idea if you have HTRAC - the diffs can be pretty sensitive. Might not make any difference though. I personally wouldn't do it, if that's the case.

I decided to just get the OEM size and not gamble
