  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 3.8 2012 Black/Black Genesis...does the 3.8 engine have a rubber timing belt or chain timing belt?

If it's a rubber belt what's the recommended replacement. On my 2003 Lexus, it was recommended to change the belt at 90,000 miles.

You really need to read and study your manuals for your new car. Its a chain by the way. I looked it up in the manual for your car.

Read and study the manual? Naw...I can't be bothered with that. Isn't there some iPhone app I can download for that? :D

Actualiy my manuals are on my Android phone in pdf format so a quick word search is how I look stuff up. But I did read and study first.

Just in case anyone thinks it will be extra safe to have their timing belt changed at 60K or 90K miles, there is 80% chance that the dealer will mess up the timing when they change the belt.

Also (using the same theory) if you have a brand new car, don't send it to be "detailed", whereby a high school kid or illegal alien will ruin your brand new paint and clear coat with a power tool (as happened in another thread).

No Android for me, but I downloaded all the PDF manuals from www.hmaservice.com long ago and put them on my computer, and I do the same thing (i.e., word search the PDF).

Being old, retired, and overall "mentally challenged", it beats the heck out of thumbing through the paper copy of the manuals that came with the car.

I too read and study first, then post a question on this forum if I can't find an answer, or if the information presented is unclear. :)

If you didn't want to answer you should’ve just let the others do so because you're rude.

But it was interesting to find this thread. :)

Me too, Check engine light started coming on so I got an OBD2 BT Reader whihc gave me P0019 Code and the ability to clear the code. But it keeps coming back so a search led me to this thread. I've got a 2012 with 5.0 Tau and 55,000 miles on it. Mine was one of the units with excessive oil consumption. At 43,000 miles Hyundai dropped a new engine and new transmission in it. Complete replacement of the tranny and a small block under the hood. So in essence the engine has about 12,000 miles on it. I'm wondering what could be causing this. But suspecting timing chain. Perhaps they didnt replace it at the time of R/R. Any ideas from any of you. Have you seen this P0019 and what was the fix?

crankshaft position sensor may need to be replaced.

Thanks for that. I think I'm going to replace the Crankshaft position senson. And the the two camshaft position sensors. That would still be cheaper that a visit to to the dealership and if that doesn't work then 3 units have been ruled out.

Why should you just replace sensors that don't need to be replaced?

Go pay for a diagnosis $140. Dont just blow money on shit that isn't going to fix it.

Because I can replace all three for $100, which is less than the diagnostic. Told this to the dealership and they agreed with me because the sensors would need to be replaced eventually anyway. If the sensors don't fix it, at least they can be ruled out. But based on the service department's experience with this engine, it's likely one of the sensors. And like I said, I can get all three sensors for less than the diagnostic and I can get all 3, for less than the dealer price for one. When I suggested this as my plan to the service manager, he agreed it was sound and made.sense given the context of everything we know and the dollars involved.
