  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, Can you change the timing chains on a 4.6 2009 with engine in situ ?

Don't know if there is enough clearance to get the lower chain cover off the crank, but you can get a clue from the video below. Looks like it would be a lot easier out of the car given what you have to remove anyway.

It is possible to change the timings chain on a 2015 5.0 Genesis with the engine still in the car. However you will have to support the engine and transmission while dropping the sub-frame to so that can remove the upper oil pan.

Do not remove the lower front timing like the guy in the video. You must remove the upper oil pan to install the lower timing cover back on the engine with RTV. You can also damage the metal gasket which seal the top of lower the timing cover that is part of the head-gasket as well if you try to force it out like in the video.

Here is how I got my 2015 5.0 engine support while I swap out my cracked lower timing cover. I assume the 4.6 models are similar.
