  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was browsing different types of tint films at a local tint shop today. They have Llumar pinnacle and stratos line and then more expensive prestige spectra photosync film. Any experience with any of these films?
What do you recommend and how much i need to spend to get it tinted including sunroof and windshield?

i was told that i can do 30% on all sides including sunroof and 70% windshield.

I went 10% on all rear glass. 30% on front drivers and passenger side. No tint on windshield.

I have LLUMAR CTX and it's great, price is midrange between regular tint and very expensive nano film, but CTX is the best tint I've ever had when it comes to seeing clearly from the inside out, and I have 15% front doors and 5% rear doors and rear window, even at night is not an issue.

That is not what this says. You may want to double check if you want to be in compliance with state law.

Car Window Tinting Percentage Laws In The US By State

California Tint Laws - 2018 & 2019 - Car Tinting Laws

I don't care what you do but at least know your risk and potential penalty. I found this:
Two things can happen if a person violates Vehicle Code 26708. The first is that he may get assessed a fine of $25.00 and ordered to remove any window tinting. Or, the second is that the person may get charged with an infraction and that person must, resultingly, pay a fine of $197.00.

Good advice, Ed. The bad advice is mainly 70% on the windshield.

Going against the law on the books is always a gamble, but the odds of a ticket on borderline tint is minimal. In my more rebel days, I did 5% limo tint all around on my 750iL (Delphin Gray over Black) including my windshield - it allowed the AC to work much better in this FL heat and I used to joke that no one would dare try to carjack me in the Bimmer. Over 8+ years, I was stopped once locally and given a warning, and once more (years apart) when a Trooper got me on US27 - wrote me the speeding ticket and came back with his meter and said: "roll down your rear window" before proudly ticketing me for that too. I never changed it, but looking back it was bad as you couldn't see in with your face pressed up against the windows or from any angle, so I get the danger they feel it posed.

These days I'd be a little more careful with the trigger-happy climate out there. Not to mention, too dark just doesn't look good on classy vehicles imo; call it the wisdom of aging. Thanks for posting the chart, it'll come in handy as I'll be looking into tint soon myself.

I lived is CA for a year, had 20% front tint and was getting pulled over once a week, they're dicks over there, do 5 % rear doors and back window and do ceramic 70 or 80% for the two front doors, then you'll be good, get the most expensive ceramic tint you can get for the two front doors so you'll get good protection since you can't go dark there. Windshield tint in CA, forget a bout it.

The important thing is to keep your face shielded from the peasants. The power rear window shade and the rear window shades do a good job here as well.

Be glad you don't live here in NC.
Annual safety/emissions inspection has been expanded to include, at inspector's discretion, an extra $10 fee annually for them to check tint transmission with a portable electronic gauge. If you fail, no fine, but you are tagged on the state network, and you cannot renew registration until inspector approves.
Haven't heard if bribery helps..................

At least you are allowed 35% so not too bad. Some states are 70%, a why bother.

I like living in a state with no inspection and no front plate.
