  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Am looking for recommendations on tint levels? I am looking to keep the temp down inside the vehicle and keep the burning sun off my skin while driving.

I live in CA, where it is illegal to tint the front windows, but I have always done so with a super dark tint (limo) in the back and slightly lighter in the front. My Ranger was a dark color so it worked well, my Tacoma was silver, so the front lighter than the back wasnt as slick.

I want to keep the elegance of this car and not ruin it with the wrong tint design. What are you guys using for tint levels? With today's technology does the light tint work as well as the dark? Is one brand better than another for any reason? Are you guys tinting the backs darker than the fronts or using the same all around?

I know its a lot of questions, but your insight is appreciated.

Does anybody have a good tinter in the San Fernando Valley of LA, CA area? I am in the NW section of the Valley, which means that Simi Valley and eastern Ventura county is also local.

Rami--

I live in East Tennessee, (obviously no where near your area), but just tinted all windows w/35% Axcess tint (non-metallic from Llumar) as suggested in part in the owners manual. (They didn't suggest the brand/mfr., but that's the one that I used). There is a lengthy thread on this site regarding tint. It's worth the read! I've used the same local company to tint the last four cars, and they've done a great job. In Tennessee, 35% is the legal limit for all four doors and the back window. I also include the sunroof in the tint process. Many have gone darker and been OK, but I stuck with the 35%. I like it--it's not too dark, but brings down the light and heat dramatically. My interior is black--absorbs heat. We have nearly 9 months of summer around here! It's very different from the Chicago area where I grew up. The A/C runs nearly all the time I'm in it--especially during the work day on my way to appointments, meetings, etc. and the tint keeps the temp down so the compressor doesn't have to work as hard. It was a little more expensive to use the Axcess, but a few extra bucks to do it correctly is worth it, IMO. It really looks nice w/the Cabernet Red Pearl paint that I have.

Good luck--

Rami--

Here's a few pics of my Cabernet Red Pearl w/the Axcess tint @ 35%. I--in my happily biased opinion--think it looks AWESOME!

Enjoy!

Llumar seems to be the brand of choice around here, but what are your thoughts on 3m? Have always liked 3m products, but never used their tints.

Lot of good questions as I will have to do the same here in Phoenix, AZ.

And I would appreciate a professional tint installer here in Phoenix if anyone knows of such people.

And I haven't bought my Genesis yet - my 2006 Azera just turned 25,000 tonight - on my cul-de-sac....

To follow up and close the thread... I went with a 35 on the front and 30 on the rears... 3M brand and it looks great... will post some pics as soon as I wash my car (been real dusty round here lately).

Thanks for the insight.
