  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recently got an 09 Genesis sedan. I would like to tint the windows both front and rear. I have gotten estimates from $79 to as high as $400. Also different degrees of tint. I live in Ocala, Fl and the police have been know to pull people over, apply a meter to their windows and ticket if tint is "illegal"

One shop tried to sell me dark dark tint and claimed that the police wont bother me in a Genesis. Yeah, right.

Question is, what is a fair price and what brand of tint film should I look for?

I don't want that purple bubbled look I have seen in other vehicles.

If you can recommend anybody in my area ever better. Keep away from dealer??

It seems like the recommended tint these days is ceramic because of the amount of heat reduction. Watch what you use on the rear window though because the type of tint you use might affect the antenna's ability. One other hint- make sure they have a lifetime warranty. Depending how fancy a tint you get-expect to pay $200-$400.

I'm in J-ville and purchased 3M color stable film for 2 Hyundais recently. It's a little more expensive, but it's guaranteed not to peel, crack or turn purple. For a '11 Genesis sedan and a '11 Elantra Limited the cost was $200.00/each.

If you want to drive here, respond and I'll pass along the name of the installation company.

Unless you have a metallic or ceramic film, there is not much heat reflection other than just reducing the amount of sunlight that can enter your car (which does help some). Metallic and ceramic also reduce the amount of sunlight (VLT), but also reflects heat becasue of the metallic or cermamic particles in the film. Metallic films can interfere with electronics, especially on the rear glass, so that is why ceramics are considered best.

Each state has its own tint laws. FL laws are pretty liberal, so someone should be able to get a lot of protection within the law, especially if you go with a ceramic. However, you should be careful if you travel a lot to other states.

There are many threads on tinting in this forum, with lots of good info.

All set. Decided to go with Formula One Pinnacle. 30% all around including the rear window. $249 + tax. Ceramic, lifetime warranty. Installer has been around 20 years and is an "approved" Formula One dealer.
