tiny metallic rattling noise at idle normal?

my car is brand new with 150 miles, and i've noticed a very subtle ratting noise at idle. it is not heard with the doors shut, only when i'm outside by the car.

i'm no expert but sounds like the timing belt turning? is this normal operation noise?

Seems to be a normal aspect of the GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) system on 2012 3.8 and 5.0 engines. Others have reported the same noises on other 2012 GDI Genesis models, and at least some other brands with GDI.

Depends on what you consider 'metallic' and 'rattling' probably very normal in general terms - however since we can't hear what you hear.... ask your dealer.

Yes, it's normal. The car doesn't have a timing belt. Unless you are outside of the car when you're driving, I wouldn't worry about it.

GDI is noiser than old carbs or port injection. However, if it would put your mind at ease go to dealer and get them to check it and also listen to other new cars run on the lot that have same engine you have in your genny.
