  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So this is odd. My Michelin Pilot Sport4 tire had a bad crack. Possibly pothole related. Took to dealer and they were great in getting a replacement. When I got home and looked closely they put on Michelin Pilot Sport4S. Not 4. Worried about having a mismatch here. It’s front. Thoughts?

Was a senior director for a European tire manufacturer for several years, so take this as you will...

2 things you should never do is 1) Never mix speed ratings on the same car and 2) never mix load ratings on the same car.

The Pilot Sport 4 is a 96Y (96 load rating, Y speed rating). The Pilot Sport 4S is also a 96Y.

You could also look at the UTQG rating, but those are manufacturer determined. Being that these are both Michelin, the PS4 is a 320 AA A and the PS4S is a 300 AA A. Technically the PS4 will wear a little longer, but not much.

The US Tire Manufacturers Association will tell you to replace tires in full sets, not individually. From the manufacturer's side, we would also support that messaging, however, would be comfortable from a warranty perspective in at least pairs.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. I think you are right. I need to ensure at min pair matches. I need to have them replace it with PS4

I am not arguing against anything you said...

But it's super strange that the:
(4) has a 30,000 km warranty with a UTQG of 320 AA A
(4S) has a 50,000 km warranty, with a UTQG of 300 AA A

Counter intuitive wear UTQG vs Michelin treadwear warranty.
