  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It appears that I am getting close to needing to replace my original Continentals. What tires have you replaced your original tires with and how do you like them and why?

Actually, the referenced thread seems to be more directed at the OEM Dunlops than the Conti's that come standard on the R-spec.

Although I am not currently in need of replacements I would also be interested in what R-spec owners have used.

I would also prefer to hear from R-spec owners if there are any on the forum that have replaced their OEM tires.

I posted what I did in that thread but I'll repeat it here.

Stock 245/45 19 Bridgestone SO4 pole position summer tires. Wore out at around 20K miles.

Replacement Conti DW 245/45 19. Car seems to handle a little better. We'll see how they wear.

How are the Continentals wearing? Is this the same tire as my OEM's (235's)? Did you consider 255's?

They seem to be wearing fine. I did consider 255's but they will not fit the rims. 245 is about as wide as you can go on a stock rim.

Not sure which Contis they put on for OEM. If it's a 235, then it's probably the DWS which is a all season tire. The OEM SO4 245 is a summer only tire that came as an option on the car. Since I live in So.Cal., I went with the 245 DW summer tires for my replacement.

FYI: Conti DWS is Dry/Wet/Snow
Conti DW is Dry/Wet

I also have the DW's with the 245 width. I like them quite a bit...wearing well and still quiet and nice ride.

The OEM R Spec Conti's are the ContiProContact (Grand Touring All-Season), which were ok, but not performance minded at all. They are the OEM tire of the current generation Subaru Outback, so that should speak for itself. They howl and sqeal in agony when pushed hard, but so do the DWS on my wifes Optima. The DW's don't have this issue with noise or traction:)
