Tires

Hi everyone,

My name is Karen and I have a 2015 V8 Genesis and it eats tires. I just turned 17,000 miles and I just replaced my sixth new tires. Georgia is famous for potholes and I admit most have my name on them but this is ridiculous. Unfortunately, I am a older widow with no one to ask so I would love some opinions. Is it because I am a terrible driver or the low profile tires or something inherently wrong with Continental tires? Thanks so much for any advise/opinion, even if you think I am just a bad driver. LOL

Are you saying you replaced "6 tires" or have had "6 new sets of tires"?

If you look at other posts within the Genesis, G80 and G90 forums, you will see many complaints regarding the Continental tires. Options are many. I currently have the Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ A/S and have had amazing results. Our roads in Dallas aren't maintained very well and I hit potholes on a daily basis. No issues. Plus, the tires protrude out past the rims protecting them from hitting curbs.

Glenn, thank you so much for your quick response. I have had just six tires not sets but that was pricey as you know.
I asked about Michelin, as that is what my husband always said were the best. I was advised that I had to stick with the Continentals because the back tires are larger than the front. The tech said it would make the speedometer not work properly and something about the driving. Would this be a true statement? I am not sure I am getting good advise from my dealer. I am going to show the dealer your suggestion and why they didn't tell me about these tires. Thank you again, I appreciate your time.

Yes, the car is calibrated for a set of staggered tires (smaller in the front and larger in the rear). Sadly, this arrangement causes the tire warranty on the rears to be cut in half by the manufacturer. As for brands of tires, any would do as long as they have the same sizes as what Hyundai recommends.

I'm not sure why the dealer hasn't recommended another brand/model of tire in this case. If you get no satisfaction through the dealer, I recommend contacting Hyundai directly. If/when you do choose to change brands, I highly recommend using a tire shop (Discount Tire, etc...) instead of the dealer.

Eats tires as in wears out the tread, or you damage them and have to get a new one? So you have to run the staggered sizes which does wear out the tread faster because you can't rotate them between the front and rear, but they should last longer that what you are seeing. I changed to the Michelin Pilot Sports and like them way better than the Contis. Because of the power and the way I drive the rears are wearing 2X as fast as the fronts.

You can rotate the staggered tires from side-to-side (unless you have a tire with directional tread).
