  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all;

After a truly frustrating couple of months trying to find a low mileage 2005 - 2006 Lexus LS460 CPO we put a deposit on a 2011 3.8 tonight. I know everyone raves about Lexus but my whole experience with a number of Lexus dealerships was very negative. After getting jacked around one last time by a Lexus dealer in Greenville SC yesterday I decided to look at the closest thing to a LS and I'm really glad now that I did.

We put a deposit on a white satin pearl/saddle with the premium package. We saw the saddle on an Equus at the Hilton Head Concours last weekend and it really popped for both of us. We didn't want the Nav (call me old fashioned...I like my stick in the window Magellan) or some of the other things that came with the other packages. Paid 33.2 out the door and got them to throw in window tinting and mount/Roadforce balance a set of Michelin Primacy MX4V's I'm getting from Tire Rack ($70 rebate on a set of 4 going on now). The OEM Dunlops really are a POS. They go on Fleabay as soon as the car gets here, which should be a week or so.

My experience with the dealership (Hilton Head Hyundai) was outstanding. I'd rather get teeth pulled than play the dealership games but the salesman was very knowledgable and not high pressure at all. We spent about 10 minutes with the sales manager, who knew I had his numbers before I walked in. About the only thing we left on the table was their 2% holdback. We walked in yesterday evening around 6pm and 24 hours later (with about 6 hours of research on the Genesis in the middle) we gave them the deposit.

We replaced my wifes 05 Camry LE with 120k miles with the Hyundai. The Camry was a great car for her and cost me absolutely 0 in unscheduled maintenance over 6 years. I'm hoping the Genesis will be the same. I sold the Camry to a guy at work for 9k. He'll probably drive it another 200k miles.

My other cars are a 99 white/red Corvette Convertible and 96 Mazda Miata Type R that is an occasional driver but primarily HPDE track missle.

Things are looking really good on the Hyundai end so far.

Wow saddle interior is really getting harder to come by. I personally don't like it but the dealerships can't keep them in stock. You can't really compare the Genesis to Lexus LS460. LS460 is a better car. No question about it. When you factor in the price, however, it's a different story. You will save so much money with the Genesis in the long run compared to a used Lexus. Think about the regular unleaded vs premium gas, oil changes, maintenances, and warranty/repairs.

A direct comparison to the 460 should not be made...Nor with the 7 series, A-8, MB 500, or XJ, as these cars are in a different class...(think apples to oranges.)

However, within it's proper class (3-5 series, A4-A6, G, M 37's, et al), the Genesis can handily stand on it's own unique merits...

If one 'objectively' (meaning rejecting badging ga-ga nonsense...) considers cost, maintenance (think Paris Hilton...) and warranty, the Genesis begins to stand above it's overly-coveted designer-badged brethren...

If 'badges' are what makes your boat float, feel free to opt OEM Korean.

Best Regards,

Congrats on the new car! I know what you are talking about with dealerships - i personally would rather have a good mechanic than pay close to $100/hr shop rates on non-warranty work at a Lexus dealership, but that might be idiosyncratic.

The white and saddle is a beautiful, classic combination - I thought about it but my other car is white/tan, so I went with the Sterling Blue/tan for the Genesis. Like you I also went with the 3.8 Premium without nav - I didn't feel the factory nav could beat my Garmin.

27k mi on my Genesis so far, now on Pirelli tires, and its a great big car for road trips. People still compliment me on it everywhere I go.

I think you can compare an LS to a Genesis - the Genesis is bigger than a GS, E Class, 5 Series, like an LS is. Its a unique car in that is offers a package of engine size, cabin size, and price that really compares in some direct ways cars across the C to S class range. Plus, the OP did just that - compared a Genesis to a Lexus LS, and he's not the only one to do so.

The Genesis is imo 90% of the LS for 50% of the money; a good buy imo. I looked at a GS but couldn't justify the cost - Lexuses are nice cars but the extra refinement isn't worth the extra $20-30k you can pay for an LS.

Of course this is true, as people (including me...) compare different cars all the time. And, I doubt this favorite pastime will end too soon as it might nearly be ranked as a 'civil right' to many!!....But to be intellectually honest, I doubt that Hyundai had the LS 460 specifically targeted when they carefully launched the Genesis...Nor do I believe that the extra money is well spent on the LS...Maybe on the new Equus though!

Wow!! Certainly a compliment to Genesis I would think! Either way, I'm a loving my new 2011 3.8!

No LS in my Future...(maybe an Equus though!!)

I think you can make a direct comparison of the Genesis to the LS430/460. You don't get the Lexus badging/hallowed reputation but everything else stacks up.
