  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2010 Premium with touch screen GPS

This morning when I started the car, the right side of the touch screen was quite dark "as if a light didn't come on". After about 10 minutes, it seemed to "warm up" and then was it's usual brightness for the rest of the day. This has never happened before and I'm wondering if this is a precursor to a problem. Is the screen backlit or something similar. has anyone had this happen to them with the touchscreen?

The screen is backlit.... Time will tell if its a problem. Hopefully it doesn't reoccur. I have a 2005 Dodge Durango - One day the Nav display would go black.... then it would come back for days.... now its black all the time! $2500 to replace the system, haven't decided if its worth it or not. Radio still works but with the screen black you can't change anything.

I assume the touchscreen is a simple LCD panel like laptops or more accurately like the screens on smartphones or iPad type of devices. They are backlit, typically by multiple small fluorescent tubes or LEDs. A tube could be loose, the power inverter (takes car 12volts and converts it to the high voltage needed by the tube) could be dying and/or have an intermittent connection, etc. If one tube/inverter were dead, part of the screen would be darker. The light-dark transition edge likely will be a fuzzy blend - not a sharp light-dark transistion.

On a laptop, the screen or inverters can usually be replaced individually. Don't know about the touchscreen on the Premium nav setups. The Tech package screen though is a separate module from the rest of the A/V system so it can easily be replaced. I'd bet that's true for the Premium setup too.
