TOWING PROTECTION MODE?

I was towing my motorcycle trailer up the grapevine today when my gv80 limited speed to 40mph and kept rpm at 4500. I have towed different trailers to different states and this is the first time to have Towing Protection Mode automatically turn on.
I couldn't find any GV80 information online, has this happened with anyone else?

There is no transmission temperature gauge but the vehicle temp gauge never got above half and there were no indications of any type of transmission issues. I have towed with this vehicle about 200 times and this is the 1st time Towing Protection Mode came on. When towing protection mode came on, the vehicle stayed in one gear limiting speed to 40mph at 4500rpm
