Traded my '22 G70 3.3T for a '24 BMW M240i

After determining that my G70 was contributing to my back issues (hard time getting in and out and the seat caused discomfort after even the shortest of drives), I test drove numerous cars and determined that a 2 door would work better since there is no B pillar to have to maneuver around to get in and out. I probably drove 10 different cars and decided on a BMW M240i. I had to order it to get it configured the way I wanted it and it just arrived last week. The G70 has been sitting in my garage since June.

Yeah, I lost a bit on trade because I only had the G70 for a little over a year and only put 8K miles on it but I got it appraised at Carmax and the BMW dealer gave me what Carmax was offering and put it on his lot for only $500 more than what he gave me on trade so I think it was a fair deal. I guess these cars just aren't selling well right now and it was just sitting anyway.

The BMW is definitely easier for me to get in and out of with the bigger door and no B pillar in the way. It doesn't sit as low as a Corvette or Z4 and there is minimal side rail to climb over. It is not my daily driver but more of a toy for rides up in the mountains.

As far as power, I still am under break-in with the BMW but I am guessing it will be about the same or slightly faster than the G70. The G70's power is intoxicating and the BMW should be about the same.

One thing I am going to have to be very careful with though is my speed - doing 60 in the BMW feels like 40.

And some people argue G70 is losing out because of its rear seat.

Sorry, couldn't help that was the first thought that came to mind seeing this thread.

Seriously though, the M2 is really nice platform. About the only thing that bothers me is the weight. If it was a couple of 100 lbs less, it would give the GR Supra a run for the fun-car money. But I thing BMW wanted it to be more of a comfy GT Coupe. I think they nailed it in that role.

Yeah, I don't need a back seat. When I bought the G70 I really wanted an M340i but I couldn't find one optioned the way I wanted it and BMW still had the parts shortage issues and they were telling me I could special order one but some things might be missing or not work when I get it so I went with the G70.

No complaints with the G70 except for what I already noted. Great power, decent handling and all the creature comforts one could want.

As for the weight of the M240i, the RWD which is what I have is about 3700-3750 which is a little less than the G70 RWD. But if you look at new cars, they are all heavy except for maybe some of the Porsches which are outside of my budget. A friend of mine has a 993 Porsche and a Panamera. The 993 weighs well under 3500 pounds and the Panamera weighs darn near 4500 pounds. He is just as fast in the twisties in the Panamera as he is in the 993. The only difference he claims is the truly analog experience of driving the 993. And if you really want to talk heavy cars, look at how much the electric cars weigh.

The only time I felt the weight of the Genesis was the body roll when entering corners and fast sweepers. The M240i is still in the break-in period (1200 miles) so I won't know how well she does in the twisties for a couple of months.
