  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 3.8. I put a trailer hitch on and now it is time to add the wiring. I bought a wiring kit and it tells you to hook up to four different wires. White for the ground, brown for the tail lights, and yellow and green for the left and right turn. Does anyone know what tailight wire is what on the Genesis or where I can find the info? The colors don't match up.

Thanks

No clue. But do you have a pic of your car with the hitch?

Considering one for mine ... On the fence.

Here's a couple of pics of the hitch installed. It's a Class II, 3500 lbs, 350 lb tounge. It was $146 shipped from Autoanything.

you might have to find a way into the trunk, i think its the best way. find your left/right blinker, your park lamp and brake.

Thanks appreciate the pics.

Looks like the same one from Uhaul.

For 400 installed with wiring and hitch...etc. probably going to farm this out.

Actually looks better than I would have thought. Hitch would be nice because there are very limited bike roof racks available, but some great hitch mounted ones. Also would be ideal for towing a light duty trailer such as my SportsRig.
Thanks for the pics and suggestion about U-Haul.

I have the same hitch on my R-Spec, installed by UHaul. I use it with a Thule platform bike rack.

Just got the car back from Uhaul. They did a great job.

Most importantly. I was worried about scraping in ingress and egress from the driveway. No issues.

Just fixed the starter switch on my Valkyrie. Gonna go for a ride!

Just got back from taking my Girl and Belle up to Martha's Vinyard for a little vacation.

Rented a Trailer from U-haul... they did not have the light weight motorcycle one for the trip.. and supplemented a 5x9 ... a little heavier and didn't have a proper motorcycle chock... but a v in the front where the tire would go...

while a little heavy... the Genesis towd beautifully. I used the manual shifting the whole way to minimize the transmission hunting for hte right gears.

the trailer was porky... at 1,200 or so pounds... add on a 800 pound MC

Gas Mileage sucked...but I had belle on the Island and left the trailer / car on the mainland.

Good Time...would push for the lightweight trailer next time... but no regrets.

Just remember the car isn't rated for towing. You can damage the frame if you pull too much weight. Brake capacity and torque numbers are not the the whole picture.

There must be someone out there who knows where I can get a wiring diagram for the tail lights. Is there a site with info, a book, a person who has done this before?

There is also a plug and play option.... connects behind the taile lights. Local Uhaul carries it. I'm sure there is another option out there other than U-haul...probably made by same company.

The wiwing remains in the trunk till needed... then there is a LONG cable that can be extended out from the closed trunk...works really well.

gave up looking for a wiring diagram and bought the plug and play version for $40. Towed Uhaul's 6' x 12' covered trailer a couple times now. You don't even feel there is something behind you when you take off from a light. The V-6 has plenty of power for that.
