  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, I just purchased a used 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8L (AWD)

My car has been well maintained but never had the transmission fluid changed.
Current KM : 145 000 km (90 000 miles)

Mechanic recommends adding Lucas Transmission Fix to old fluid and drive for a few hundred kilometers before replacing the fluid.
Is this safe to do?

Is it safe to just replace the fluid without "cleaning" the old fluid first?

I plan on purchasing genuine Hyundai Transmission Fluid from the dealer.

I read a lot of horror story with transmissions. I need advice from those who drive the car!

IMHO, it is safer to do this without using any additives.

Did your mechanic tell you how to add the Lucas treatment?

I would not add any additional cleaners to the transmission fluid. The cleaner agent could free up some crude/sludge that could possibly clog the small orifices in the valve body.

I would just use transmission fluid and maybe an transmission anti-slip additive added to the new fluid to account for the worn transmission clutches and the loss of the grit(old clutch material) suspended in the old fluid that helps the older transmission shift properly with worn clutches.

Just my opinion on how I maintain my older transmissions.

I suggest to use AMSOIL SIGNATURE SERIES FUEL-EFFICIENT
If the transmission shift very smooth you are ok but if you feel any feeling during shifting just add lucas transmission conditioner to smooth out the shifting point

AMSOIL SIGNATURE SERIES FUEL-EFFICIENT (Better than Hyndai transmission fluid)

lucas transmission conditioner

You are safe to change transmission fluid jut do it with flush process to ensure to drop all old fluid
