  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I just bought a used 15 genesis with about 25,000 miles on it back in November 19.
The car currently has 30,000 on it.
I was heading home friday, tried to jump ahead of a car that was going very slow. I was going about 65 on a toll road. I floored it and the car took off but then somewhere at the shift point of the car banged and hesitated.
I let off the gas and took it easy.

I get off of the toll road and now the car will engage into gear. But will slip in between shifts, then bang into gear. I believe the slip is what makes it bang into gears due to the transmission being engaged at a higher rpm.
I looked around and saw about the taillight problem.
I do have some moisture in my passenger side trunk light. Not actual water build up but moisture.
Has anyone had this issue?
Is this a shot transmission or could it be the moisture?
For me it seems like a bad transmission.
I am the second owner, and I am out of the 5yrs 60,000 warranty.
Any help would be appreciated.

Take your car to a import mechanic. It sounds like an transmission issue, however it could be electrical related due to water intrusion that maybe causing an short in the system.

The issue is hard to diagnose without properly checking it; therefore a mechanic may need to use a Hyundai specific scan tool to check the modules from any shorts.

Moisture/water in the taillight was a common issue on early Gen 2 cars. Mine got it on the left side and they replaced the housing under warranty.

Did you ever have any issue with the transmission due to the water in the tail light?
I heard it can effect electrical and make the car not go in gear or maybe search for gears.

Never created an issue with mine. Common electrical issues with the Genny are battery terminals and the buss bars in the main fuse panel under the hood. Make sure everything is tight and corrosion free. Might check battery voltage as well...

Update. This problem gets worse when the car starts to get warm.
When I first start it, it is a very light slip in between gears. It will bang into 2nd but after that limited slip and will go into gear.
After it is warmed up, lower gears almost dont engage. If they do there is a major slip.
Car is out of warranty so I need to go to a experienced mechanic in orange county CA.
Also looking into a extended warranty
