  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've never heard this. My guess is that it's not "normal".

Not normal.
Sounds like something is loose in the shift linkage.

I'm sure there is something that the brakes trigger to unlock the shifter (ie. going from park to anything else). Sounds like the switch that unlocks the shifter is louder than it should be.

Possible but I would think the shift interlock solenoid would be activating when the car isn't in park.

I've noticed this on my 2011 3.8. Seems to only do it at low speeds when I am coming to a stop. Have you found anything more about this?

no. but i was reading in some other random auto forums and they say it's normal and it's related to something.....which i've forgotten. this happens by the way even when in park.

not a big deal..don't think it's a safety issue.

It's the shift lock solenoid, and normal.

My 2009 V8 with the ZF 6-speed transmission makes a soft click when the brake pedal is pressed and the vehicle is not moving. Very light click that I can only hear if the radio and AC are off. And I can just feel it with my hand on the shift lever. I never noticed it before until I specifically looked for it thanks to this thread.

My 2012 3.8 with 40K miles transmission randomly started making a "click click, click click, click click ...etc" noise at speeds below 30 when I press the brakes. You can feel it through the shifter. Anyone have this happen? I've owned the car since new.
