  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, I have a 2011 4.6 sedan, and the transmission seems to be shifting weird going from 1st to 2nd gear. Feels like a slip as it is moving to second gear. I have about 92,000 on the car, bought it with 76,000. What is the factory warranty on this transmission? I bought a third party warranty from the (dodge) dealer, where I purchased the car. Easy Care, I have not heard good things about this warranty (after i bought it) , but not sure if still under factory warranty for the transmission. I have not service my transmission yet, but plan to soon, I do ALL of my own maintenance. I do not beat on the car, but do drive aggressive occasionally.

As a second owner the factory warranty is gone. Hope your Easy Care really is easy.

As EdP stated, only the original owner gets 10yr/100,000mi on the drive train. Subsequent owners are covered by the factory 5/60 bumper to bumper warranty. But Hero6, when you bought the car at 76k, you were already out of warranty from Hyundai.

Good luck with Easy Care.

hey Hero6, not sure if you've already went through it, but I just went through the same experience. Easycare, will ask for you to authorize a tear down of the transmission, for them to send out an inspector to verify what went wrong with the transmission. I live in Maryland, and the dealer I went to, stated that Hyundai does not tear down transmissions. They only remove, ship back to the factory, and install a reman. It took a little back and forth with the dealer and Easycare, but they agreed to have the inspector come, drive the car, and then the dealer dropped the pan on the transmission for him to see what was going on. I got my claim approval the next day and today makes day 3 with my new transmission. Total cost was about 4300 or so, but out of pocket was only the $100 deductible

Thanks for the reply, very helpful. How many mile did you have on your car when this happened? Was it the same as mine, slipping? Also was yours ever serviced before? I have 95,000, not sure what the required service interval is. I heard 60,000 but only for severe driving, not sure when regular service interval is. I am afraid easy care will blam me for not servicing it yet.

I purchased my 2012 used as a CPO with 56k miles. Within a few days of ownership the transmission began slipping around 3rd gear and catching. Car was still under warranty since it was CPO and my local dealership did the repairs without hesitation.

The 2011 4.6L had the ZF transmission in it, in which there is no reman available from Hyundai. A new transmission lists for $11,257.00. Your extended warranty will more than likely be putting in a used transmission, or a reman one from an aftermarket company.

Yeah likely rebuilt enternals and they reuse the transmission case.

But I had the 2012 3.8L

Hey, sorry for the delayed response, had a lot going on the last couple of weeks. I have had other routine maintenance done, but not the transmission. My symptoms were the same, slipping: every time the transmission went into second or fourth, a noticeable kick would hit with slight revs in between. Mileage on mine was at 75k. I did read in the warranty documentation, that the maintenance can be a loop hole they try to use. That's why they want the faulty part disassembled to be able to point fingers, but fortunately, the dealership had experience with dealing with Easy care. They knew what angle to approach in order to get the approval. I think you are right about the 60k, but I'll double check.

Well, I have been offline for a while due to Hurricane Michael here in Florida, but just an update. I was finally able to take my car to the dealer, and they replaced the transmission with a used one that had 55,000 miles on it. My car had 98,000 miles on it. The warranty company, Easy Care wanted pressure specs sent to them and have it tore down, but after the dealer explained that these are not serviceable transmissions, they relented and paid for everything. The warranty company actually purchased the used transmission and sent it to the dealer. It was about $2200 in labor and $1200 for parts, but the warranty paid for all but my $100 deductible. Transmission is shifting great now, hope to get many more enjoyable miles from the car.

I had my 4.6 zf transmission serviced about every 60 to 70k miles. At over 220,000 miles it still shifted like new. Service is always necessary, no fluid is "lifetime" unless maybe the lifetime is 100,000 miles. Hope the extended pays.

How much are you paying to have the transmission serviced each time? Or are you doing it yourself?

Dealer did it nd it was about 600.00 except one time I had the pan/filter replaced and that was a total of about 800.00. The ZF transmission in the 4.6 Genesis is the same as used in Bentley, BMW, and other euro luxury cars. The transmission filter is made into the transmission pan.
