  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was accelerating away briskly from a stop the other day and momentarily the rev's increased like the transmission was in neutral (it wasn't) followed by an almighty thump as the transmission re-engaged. It was enough to slam my head into the headrest. For a moment I thought I had been rear-ended, but there was nobody close behind. I'm definitely raising this issue with my Service Department, but was curious if anybody else has experienced anything similar.

i think you better get rid of that demon spawn you're diving...too many issues! ;-) but seriously i haven't noticed anything quite that harsh. what i do notice is that occasionally when turning off the highway onto a side road...the tranny will find itself in too high of a gear and then when i try to re-accelerate there'll be a pause while the tranny downshifts and then takes off like a streak of you know what! maybe sport mode would help with this??

I just had this happen this morning. There was a light mist coming down and it happened after I pulled away from a stop sign. Rear tires hit the big slippery white stop line that we have at all of our intersections with signs.

Been a long time since I've felt in with the rear wheels so it surprised me at first. Used to happen a lot with my front wheel drive cars: '92 Prelude, 2K Chrysler 300, '07 Infiniti M35X, and even my '11 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

The stripes as well as most pedestrian crossing lane materials in this area seem to be either epoxy or thermoplastic and can really be slick when it's raining. I've seen cars hit the crosswalk markings and almost lose control when they fishtail when hitting them and skid when applying the brakes while going across them. Same with the white stop lines.

This also might be the traction control system trying to do its job

Definitely not a traction problem as it was dry pavement and there was no wheelspin - pretty hard to do with an AWD car in 'Normal' mode. I also don't think it was traction control, as this would have reduced the engine revs, not caused them to surge momentarily. Fairly sure this was a transmission issue where the engine was disconnected from the drivetrain, allowing the revs to rise before the transmission re-engaged causing the thump.

I had something similar happen a while back. I also had multiple misfires while it happened, but the dealership wasn't able to find a cause. I'm not sure if it was the same problem as yours, but it felt a lot like what you described.

I had that issue with my transmission, especially on the 3-4 upshift. It got bad enough to warrant a new transmission (under warranty) thru the dealer.

Happened twice to me. Once I was in rush hour traffic on the Interstate and thought I was rear-ended, too.

Hello Sir. I know it's been a long time since you posted your Genesis transmission situation. I've got a 2016 Genesis that's doing the same thing. I would appreciate it, if in fact, you ever found out what was wrong and passing it along to me. Otherwise a beautiful car.
Thank you. Mike Chipman Cumming, Ga

I bought my car back in February. Soon after started having hard shift issues and car like shudder at take off. Ended up having trans rebuild and brand new transfer case. Luckily I bought extended warranty only paid like $600 including 2 new tires. The only warning light that would come on was awd fault light when I would take off from a stop. It would go away after turning the car off and back on.
