  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I will take a stab at the trim levels for the US.

We know for sure there will be a base 2.0T. I am going to go with the 3.3T Sport as the highest trim level. The middle models is where it gets wonky. I can assume there will be some upper trim level 2.0T (maybe Premium or Ultimate). There will likely be a base 3.3T as well.

So my guess will be:
  • G70 2.0T Base
  • G70 2.0T Premium/Ultimate
  • G70 3.3T Base
  • G70 3.3T Sport

Now, as for the features/options I am expecting to see standard on the highest trim level (3.3T Sport?). If it mirrors the G80 Sport then there should only be one package, HTRAC (likely bundling AWD with a heated steering wheel).

I will exclude things like proximity key with push button start, back up camera, etc. from my list as those should be standard on even the lowest trim for a 2019 model year luxury car.

So here is what I expect/want to see:
  • Sport Continuous Damping Control (CDC) Suspension
  • Intelligent Drive Mode (Eco, Normal, Sport; the G80 has “snow mode” as well, not sure if that will trickle down to the G70)
  • 19-Inch Premium Alloy Wheels with P225/40R/19 Front and P255/35R/19 Rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
  • Brembo Brakes (4 piston front and 2 piston rear)
  • Multi-view Camera
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop/Start Functionality
  • Front and Rear Parking Sensors
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist
  • Haptic Steering Wheel
  • Driver Attention Alert
  • Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Automatic Vehicle Hold (AVH)
  • High Beam Assist
  • Full LED Headlights with Dynamic Bending Light (DBL)
  • Hands-Free Smart Trunk with Auto Open
  • Dual Power-Folding Heated Side Mirrors with Approach Lights (Genesis Logo)
  • Auto-Dimming Side Mirrors
  • Acoustic Laminated Windshield and Side Windows; Front Door Water-Repellant Glass
  • Automatic Rain-Sensing Wipers
  • Auto-Defogging Windshield with Humidity Sensor
  • Automatic Headlights
  • Dual-Mode Front Vent Control and CO2 Sensor
  • Quilted Premium Leather Sport Seats with Contrast Stitching
  • Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
  • Heated Rear Seats
  • Black Microfiber Suede Headliner
  • Integrated Memory System (IMS) for Driver Seat, Outside Mirrors and Steering Column
  • Power Tilt-and-Telescopic Steering Wheel
  • Genesis Connected Services
  • SiriusXM Traffic & Travel Link
  • Auto-Dimming Inside Rearview Mirror with Compass and HomeLink
  • Lexicon® 15-Speaker Premium Audio with Quantum Logic Surround & Clari-Fi™ Music Restoration Technology
  • Wireless Device Charging (front) Qi Standard
  • Android Auto™ & Apple CarPlay
  • Electroluminescent Gauge Cluster with 7-Inch Color Information Display
  • Heads-Up Display (HUD)
  • Smart Posture Control System
  • 3-year/36,000-mile Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance and Valet Services
We might see:
  • Power Rear Sunshade
  • Manual Rear Side-Window Sunshade
  • Auto Start/Stop
Packages:

  • HTRAC (AWD + Heated Steering Wheel)
The availability of the above options is one of the primary reasons I am looking at the G70 (along with performance, price and reliability)

You're probably pretty close for US trims. What I know for Canadian trims:

- 2.0T will have a Sport trim. Not sure if that is specifically the RWD manual version or not but it very well could be.
- Heated steering wheel is standard in Canada regardless of trim. :)
- Genesis Connected Services will finally be making its way to Canada with the G70.
- Sport trims get fancy chrome trim on the front bumper cover whereas non-Sport trims are body colour.

...the RWD manual version...

I'm just starting my discovery phase for the G70 (having over-analyzed the Stinger for the last year). Is the G70 known to have a manual transmission option?

That's a great list of features. If the car comes in at a reasonable price, with those features and its reported performance, it should be absolutely killer. Hope I'm in a position to get one when they finally arrive.

Sure looks nice. Priced right, it will grab some of the top end Sonata buyers too. I had 3 Sonata Limited but never made the jump to the Azera. Seemed you got little more for the added price. I'd have jumped to the G70 though, probably one car sooner than my jump to the Genesis.

Well this is the Korean site and catalog below.. but it's pretty cool to look over.

Great post. Hopefully Hyundai keeps the 360 cam, wireless charging, and heated rear seats in the US trims, unlike what Kia did to the Stinger.

I am waiting to see how competetive they are with the Stinger pricing being so good... Fingers crossed they will start lauching soon as I am sorely tempted by Kia...

That is one of the primary reasons I am on this forum waiting on the G70. To "right" the Kia wrongs (in the US) so to speak. I will add in keeping the "Black Suede Material (headlining, pillar trim, etc.)" on the US model to that list as well.

If I lived in Canada I am not sure I could pass on the Stinger. I don't see Hyundai/Genesis going with the same SUPER aggressive pricing that Kia Canada has in place for the Stinger.

Pricing in Canada (estimates; these are subject to change):

Base 2.0T AWD = $42k
Sport 2.0T RWD manual = $45k
Elite 2.0T AWD = $47k
Prestige 2.0T AWD = $52k
Dynamic 3.3T AWD = $52k
Sport 3.3T AWD = $57k

All trims include Genesis Connected Services (smartphone remote start, locking/unlocking, GPS tracking, maintenance checker), included scheduled maintenance and valet service for the 5y/100k km comprehensive warranty.

My sister Kia store is selling a loaded Stinger for $52k. Definitely would rather have the G70 over the Stinger!

So doing a little "guesstimation".........

The G80 Sport costs 18% more in the US than it does in Canada. So if you convert the G70 Sport 3.3T AWD trim to USD and then add the same US market adjustment, it takes you to $53,775 US.

That is $375 more than the starting price of a base Mercedes C43 AMG and $775 more than the starting price of a base Infiniti Q50 RS400 AWD.

I think that is a good formula for the US market. Have the loaded G70 pricing end where the competitors begin.

I think this pricing is risky. When I tell friends about the Genesis, there is a high percentage that FULL-STOP - will not even consider a Hyundai. That impression till take time to correct. I think they need to beat the prices of their more established competitors, even fully loaded, not match them.

One thing that's not mentioned in this price analysis is there are USED versions of the c43/RS400 available for lower price points. They will be a serious option for many buyers, myself included, considering the G70.

Excellent points. Genesis needs to be aggressive on pricing. there will be an initial flurry of buyers who aren't price sensitive and just like the car. Then, price will become a major factor as people consider what for many is an unknown (or even a maker associated with more down-market cars) against established premium brands. If the new G70 thrives with competitive pricing and establishes its bona fides in its segment, prices can then rise. But jumping in at the get-go with prices similar to established marques is going to be something of an up-hill battle, past the price-insensitive early adopters. I think that if Genesis can get a good number of these on the road, so that more and more people get a chance to see them and hear about their virtues, that will establish the brand more firmly than trying to compete head-to-head with prestige brands right out of the gate. The G80 and G90 are already available and this is supposed to be more of an entry-level car for the Genesis brand. The mere existence of the G80 and G90 haven't catapulted Genesis into the realm of instant name recognition and a perception of premium status, largely because there are still relatively few of them on the road. The G70 is their best chance to really establish a presence in the North American market, and to do that, they need to start off (at least) with very competitive pricing or few people will ever discover these cars. Most people don't follow car forums or even read automotive magazines. Reputation and word-of-mouth are key. It's seeing the car in the driveways of their neighbors that will get people interested. And its aggressive pricing that will get the cars into those driveways/

I agree with that. Once they have an SUV/CUV in the line they will have a better roundup to compete. In 10 years, the price advantage will have shrunk and won't be needed to get people into the showrooms. If they maintain the style, quality, technology, they will become entrenched the same as other luxury brands are today.

This - I wonder what % of mercedes/BMW/Audi/Lexus buyers are looking for "prestige" as a buying factor. That's something that Genesis is on the path to, but IMHO, the general public don't see it yet. Trying to price in prestige will fail.

I can't say I disagree.

But Kia priced the 2018 Stinger GT2 AWD (w/ remote start & puddle lights) at 53k in the US. I would expect the loaded G70 to at least match that (likely being more since it is the lux arm of the company). The Stinger GT is also missing heated rear seats, wireless charging, 360 degree camera and faux-suede headliner at that price point. If all those options are added back in, with free 3 year maintenance AND the price is less, the Stinger is in big trouble regardless of how much bigger the backseat and trunk are.
