Hi, I recently purchased a 2010 4.6 Hyundai Genesis and quickly realized the timing was off. However, I cannot for the life of me find any timing kits for this vehicle. Let me also state that I do not want to go to a dealer and pay like $900 + for a timing kit. The biggest pain has been the cam phasers. Does anybody know of any alternative parts that fit this engine? There are literally hundreds of kits for any of the other Genesis models just not for the 4.6 or the 5.0. I realize that the Tau engine was different than the six cylinder engines. Does this apply to every single part on that engine, including the chain, the tensioners, the cam phasers, etc. Also the gaskets are there any other model gaskets that fit the ones needed to do a timing service?
A little backstory on this vehicle, I bought it from an auction I was a little impulsive because I wanted a 4.6, so I did commit the Cardinal sin of buying it without laying my eyes or hands on it first. When I got it, it was running, but it was misfiring on every cylinder that was the only set of codes. After looking over some of the diagnostic info, I concluded that the timing was off and realized that someone had been inside of the timing before. I have never done a timing service, but to me, once I opened it up it looked like whoever did it before just set the timing wrong and not necessarily like a part burnt out . I’ll attach some pictures of what the upper timing looks like, after I found TDC. If you need more pics let me know.
If I do end up having to find these parts just piecemeal, which ones do you suggest I get ?My thought was; valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets and seals and new water pump gasket, a new chain x2 and I was going to buy (if I have to )just two of the cam phasers and compare them to the ones I have to see if there’s actually any degradation, same with the tensioner just get one. I’ve worked on a lot of vehicles I’ve just never done this type of service, so I don’t know how to tell if my parts are bad or not unless I just buy one to compare it to. The cams are locked into place the chain seems taught. Do you think there is actually any chance someone just serviced this wrong and the parts may be good.?
I think I already know the answer, when it comes to interchangeable parts, but I would love some feedback on the best way to approach this fix, thanks for reading my post.
