  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I just experienced my first real issue since I've had my 15 5.0 for about 1.5 years

Wife and I went and got groceries and loaded them in the trunk, shut the trunk as normal, and went to go start the car and noticed it said the trunk wasn't shut. I thought maybe I didn't close it all the way, so I got out to close it and it was latched. Tried to open it with the button on the trunk, nothing. Tried my key-fob, nothing. It wouldn't budge. My theory is that the ajar sensor has gone bad and the car thinks the trunk is open all the time now and won't open because it already thinks it's open. I was able to open it using a stick to use the emergency lever through the trunk passthrough.

I tried searching to see if anyone else had run into this. I bought a new latch assembly ($110) and plan on installing it myself since it seems pretty straight forward.

Why not just use the mechanical key in the lock on the trunk lid. That is all mechanical just like the emergency release, no electrical interaction.

Is yours the power open/close trunk, or the standard one? I am having similar issues with my power trunk. I get false ajar blips when I go over bumps. The ajar switch is in the power latch assembly in my case.

Well, I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed :p

It's the non-powered trunk.

There should be a switch somewhere that knows when the trunk is shut. Find that switch. Could be built into the latch mechanism or somewhere separate. Look for wiring coming off a contact switch of some sorts. Switch might be adjustable for closure position so worth finding where it’s at in case it’s out of position.

It is built into the latch assembly for the power trunk. The manual does not indicate there is any mechanical adjustment for the switch, but there is a software calibration of sorts that you can trigger for it. I didn't see anything on the manual trunk.

Replaced the latch assembly. $110 later and about 20 mins and its back to working great.

I've been having the same trunk sensor issue. Where did you get your assembly from?

Stumbled across this thread - I have a 2017 G80 the trunk sensor is going out - it will flash open/closed/open closed as I drive over bumps. Not the end of the world, but certainly a PITA! I would be interested to know if you ever found the part. Anybody have ideas for cleaning/fixing the sensor?

I finally figured out that I could (and did) correct this problem by adjusting the two trunk lid bump stops outward, If you press down on the closed trunk lid and the trunk ajar warning comes on, this is likely your problem too. Adjust them out until it takes a lot of pressure pushing down on the trunk lid before the ajar warning comes up.

Ahh, nice!! OK I'll check in to it, appreciate the info!

I have a 2015 Genesis the light is on in the dash that says my trunk is open but it isn’t. It’s draining my battery. The dealership says change the latch assembly that might fix it but the trunk is closed there’s another issue. How can I get the indicator light off I tried taking the fuses out but the light is still on. HELP
