If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Having intermittent issues with the trunk closer buttons on the inside of the trunk (2015 Gen Ulti) When I go out in the morning and open the trunk, that part works fine, by standing behind the car, using the key FOB or the trunk exterior handle. When I try and close the trunk with either button, nothing. I start the car press the trunk switch in the car, the trunk closes. Sometime during the day I open the trunk and both interior trunk closers (close trunk & close trunk & lock car work fine) Any ideas? battery is fine. All other electronics seem to be working.

My trunk is possessed. Sometimes I have to press the interior trunk release 2 or 3 times before it...you know...opens? And the exterior trunk button seems to have a mind of its own too. And while I know it was designed this way, the fact that I can open the trunk with the key fob but not close it is absolutely irritating as all get out.

so I have discovered if you are not standing in the correct place behind the car the buttons don't work. not sure if it is 2018 specific issue, but I have to be behind the right tail light at least 6-8 inches from the car when I press the button, else the damn auto close thinks the fob is in the trunk and will not close.

I've tested my theory by placing the fob in the trunk, auto close does not work, then holding the fob at various distances behind the car, and around 8 inches seems to be the goldilocks zone as long as it is behind the tail light, if it is directly behind the car, it doesn't work..

and the lock button doesn't work if the car is locked, only if it is unlocked, but I found this is by design and pointed out in the manual.

Lock button also will not work if the fob is out of range. The other button will close, but not lock, of course.

and neither work if the fob is in the car or trunk. which is a good thing, but I think the system is a bit finicky when it comes to the location of the fob. I've stood next to my trunk and the auto open doesn't work, I step back a foot and it's fine.. I've stood next to my door and it doesn't unlock via the button, I step back a foot and it's fine.

With my former Lexus and my wife's Toyota, the range surrounds the vehicle like a bubble, there are sensors in the front and rear doors, both rear quarter panels and the center of the rear bumper.

with the Genesis it is very particular where you are in relation to the sensor. IMO their should be more sensors as to surround the vehicle. it appears there are only sensors in the front doors near the handle, and behind each tail light.. nothing in the center of the trunk area and nothing in the rear doors.. This makes the range sporadic and inconsistent, and don't even get me started with Wi-Fi interference and key fobs.. My fobs do not work from within my house 5 ft from the car because of my wi-fi mesh network, but outside I can open the car door from 200 ft away. While my wife's fobs work easily from the kitchen to the street which is over 200 feet away.

On a related issue, can the trunk be manually and partially closed? I have a 16 foot 2x6 board to pickup and think the trunk pass through may allow me to get most of the board in the vehicle but think I'll still have some overhang. Anyone ever attempt a partial close of the trunk lid?

I have been able to partially close the trunk by holding onto the trunk lid while its closing and my finger on the close button. Pressing it quickly while closing stops it. Press it again it continues to close. Its a bit tricky but possible.

You can use the dash mounted switch to close the trunk lid as little or as much as you want. The trunk lid will stop closing when you release the button.

My 2015 Genesis Ultimate trunk lid button won't close the trunk anymore. The trunk lid lock button and dash button both close the trunk. I'm guessing that the trunk lid mounted button has failed and needs to be replaced. Has anyone else seen this?

It's almost certainly the wiring bundle at the trunk hinge.

(Your symptoms are different because a different wire in the same harness has broken. The rest will too, eventually.)

My trunk close button on my 2015 Genesis ultimate has stopped working in the past month. Anyone else that had theirs fail get the issue resolved?

Check the wiring harness for a broken wire. Well known issue and can be fixed by a diy without replacing the entire harness.
