Trunk does not lift all the way

How can the trunk be adjusted to raise to its' top level. When I open it, it stays very close to the closed position and requires manual effort to lift and hold to the maximum open position. Am I the only one having this issue? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND INSIGHT.....
 
Probably a tired shock that needs to be replaced. What year and model? Automatic trunk?

Is this something I can replace myself? struts versus springs right? just pull off covering and replace?
 
yes you can buy replacement trunk struts or springs and install them yourself. there are at least 2 posts on this site with info and instructions for both the manual and automatic trunks.
