  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am a new owner of a 2009 Genesis. This firum has been great and I always utilize these venues to learn about my new (used) cars from the ones who have owned them since new...great stuff.

Here's my issue:

My trunk release/open switch only works selectively. If the car is locked (via any method) and I walk up to the trunk, key fob in pocket, the trunk swtich will not work to open the trunk. I either have to use the fob's trunk release button...or..if I hit unlock on the fob, then I can use the trunk switch to open the trunk.

I am positive that my valet switch in the glovebox is not on.

While it's a minor inconvenience, it would be nice to not have to retrieve the key fob/keys out of my ppocket to open the trunk if the car is locked.

Anyone have a similar issue with any luck resolving it?

Where is your cell phone when you use the keyfob in your pocket? If they are in close proximity (i.e., the same pocket), the cell phone signal can "mask" your keyfob signal. I've had my cell phone and my keyfob in the same pocket and the keyfob would not work until I took it (or my cell phone) out of my pocket. I've jumped into my car and tossed the keyfob and my cell phone into the cup holder and been unable to start the motor until I took one or the other out of the cup holder. I now keep my cell phone and keyfob in opposite pockets.

I'll check the potential tomorrow - but whether or not my cell phone has been on my belt or not, I know that I've at least pulled the fob out of my pocket and literally placed it next to the switch while trying it to no avail :(

Does it matter which of the two key fobs you use? My car certainly isn't like yours. I routinely have the key fob in one pocket and cell phone in the other and have never had issues getting the car to unlock - doors or trunk - as I walk up to it.

If the little black unlock buttons on your doors work reliably, but the trunk is different, it's a bug in the trunk: it sounds like the rear antenna isn't connected properly on your car. There are lots of antennas scattered about the car specifically for the key fob: the main outside door handles for example... plus a couple inside the car. There's probably one in the trunk somewhere and that one is likely not connected properly on your car. It should be a warranty item - let the dealer do their job.
