  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk Locking Issue

Per the owner's manual, when one locks his/her car using the remote or door handle button, all doors AND trunk are supposed to lock. Conversely, when one unlocks the doors, the trunk unlocks. This is not the case with my car. My trunk remains open whether car is locked or not. Moreover, the only way I can lock the trunk is via the "valet" button in the glove box. I believe that there is a problem with my car, but would one of you confirm this?

Thanks in advance for checking his or her car to verify that mine is not working as it should.

If the doors are locked via the door button or the remote, the trunk will be locked at the same time. However, if your key fob is in your pocket, pressing the trunk release button under the trunk will open the trunk even if locked. ;)

Thanks for your prompt response. It was proximity of my remote to the trunk lid that created the "problem". In fact, the trunk locks as it should provided one doesn't attempt to open it while carrying the remote. You saved me an embarassing (and pointless) trip to the dealer's service department. At this point, the car's only fault seems to a defective flap covering the trunk latch. It has fallen into the hole it is intended to cover.

So has mine. It is the first warranty item in the 12,000 miles that I have put on the car.

Ditto for me! Thanks for the post, guys. My wife was really bugging me about the fact that the trunk wouldn't lock along with the door locks. She misses her SUV, and loves to nitpick me on my R-Spec. Now the only thing left is a rattle on the passenger side (which I can't hear, and neither can the dealer, so I guess she'll have to live with it).

If the key fob is in your pocket, the trunk will open. As a test, put the key fob about 15 feet away from the locked car and you'll soon discover that the trunk is locked as well.

Tip- read and study the complete set of manuals for the car.
