I love the premium Lexicon audio system, but, as others have noted, it lacks deep, low-end bass to fill out the full spectrum of sound. I just got my car back after installing a trunk subwoofer, and it sounds fantastic! I don’t like my music to be heard before my car is visible, but I enjoy the low end without a booming quality.
So, I went with a Rockford Fosgate 10-inch driver in a sealed enclosure containing the 300 W amplifier (link below). The quality of this unit is fantastic. More bass than I would EVER need. There is a remote bass level knob that I use to control how much I want based on song style and my mood. Despite the apparent tight fit on the photo, the remote is not affected by moving the seat front/back. The shape of the box allows it to fit easily in the trunk area without taking up much usable space. There’s some Velcro at the top edge, which adheres to the back of the rear seat. But the unit is entirely detachable when I want to drop the seats and maximize cargo space.
The sub was around $300, and the wiring (I used upgraded cables) and installation were $700. It was not a bad investment, in my opinion. I thought others might find this helpful.
