  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm near buying a new 3.8 coupe, but am skeptical of the epa mileage on the window sticker. Can you all chime in and give me an idea of what kind of mpg I can expect? Same question about the 2.0t Premium coupe.
Thanks,
Mark

When it was summer and warm I would get 26 mpg mixed drive.. 70% hwy 30% city.

Just hwy I can get 31-32...

Cheers.

I own a 2013 Track coupe w/8 speed auto (2200 miles)-I have seen as high as 29.5 on the hwy and seem to average 22 around town-hard acceleration really reduces mileage--but its a lot of fun !

Just traveled back from Jacksonville FL to Athens GA via I 95, I 16, and U.S. 441. Average speed 68; mpg 26.7. 2011 4.6 V8. 107k on car.

Mine's a 2011 3.8 Track Coupe with a 6 speed manual.

When it was new I got around 23/24 in town and never more than about 25 on the highway.

I stick my foot in it once or twice just about every trip to/from work. On the highway the cruise control is set 5 to 7 mph above the speed limit. The trunk usually has some heavy items in it (SIG 566R with enough ammo to make me feel good and an extra M&P pistol with ammo, sometimes an AR15 as well) along with the wife's weeks worth of clothes, shoes, make up, etc. for the 2 day weekend visit. I never got more than 25 on the highway until the engine started getting "broken in".

At about 22,000 miles I noticed an occasional 25 mph in town driving and on a recent trip to WV/NC/SC/NC/VA I got 28 mpg on the first fill up, 27 mpg on the second fill up and 26 mpg on the last fill up.

Some day, not soon, I may do a road trip at the posted speed limit and see what the mpg is.

I'm quite happy with mine. One of these days it'll hold a place in my memory right up there with my 86 IROC Z28 (fun curves, fun shut downs, fun trips).

with these cars its how you drive that makes a HUGE difference in gas mileage. My 3.8 genesis gets 18-23mpg around town according to the dash and if its my wife or i driving it! I've even seen it get upto 27 around town a few times and as high as 32 highway with the cruise set about 5 under the speed limit while I was coming back from GA to FL.

I have a 2009 3.8 sedan. It was rated at 29 on the Highway. We averaged 31 mpg at 75 mph on our 1100 mile trip from Columbus Ohio to Port Charlotte Florida. The cars trunk and back seat was full. When I drive I average around 24 combined mpg. When my wife drives it is more like 19 to 21 combined mpg

How you take off and the speed you cruise at plays a HUGE part. I take it your wife drives a little bit more aggresively than you or more stop and go traffic.

There is only one way to calculate "true" mpg.

fill the car up and press the trip miles reset button so it goes to zero.

drive it till you fill it up again.

divide the miles recorded by the trip odometer by the gallons shown on the gas pump and the number you get it the miles per gallon.

The one in the car does not show true mpg. I stopped paying attention to it the first few weeks I had my car and saw it was off by as much as 3 mpg, usually on the high side.

Well, I get 20-28 depending on fuel and aggressiveness with a 3.8 R-Spec Coupe. I only use Shell V-Power, partly because it's the only high-end brand available where I am. I get the most power from E0 (ethanol-free), but E10 gives almost the same performance and better mileage. So, in traffic with a few punches, it will be around 20. On the interstate with the air off, as much as 28 or 29, but on the interstate at 80-85 MPH with the air on, more like 26. Most often, I see 22-26. When I travel, I'll use Chevron for comparison and the power goes way down (feels sluggish) but the mileage goes way up (like 32).

Hope that helps :)
