  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently purchased the 2010 genesis 3.8 and am now looking into throwing a couple mods on it. Nothing crazy just a few things like exhaust bov intake and fmic for now. I am trying to locate some places that can help me out with installing the parts once I purchase them. I don't want to just go to any auto mechanic, I want someone who knows these cars as much as possible. I live in Baltimore so hopefully someone knows a place somewhat close. Any suggestions? And sorry if this is a repost, I couldn't find any relavent threads to post on.
Thanks!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
1Lift the car up, if you don't have a lift, lift up the back end so you can get under it. Use ramps or a jack, whatever you have. Do not use only a jack, it may fall on you. When using ramps be sure to lock the emergency brakes and block the front wheels.

2Assess the condition of all the parts of your exhaust system before beginning. If you need to begin at the exhaust manifold, the crossover pipe, or the catalytic converter, plan on ordering all of the needed parts prior to removing the old exhaust system
3Lie on your back and position yourself under the car until you are looking at where the pipes bolt onto the catalytic converter.
4Unbolt the stock exhaust system starting from the back of the car and work your way forward. Generally, the bolts are rusted and hard to get off unless you have an impact gun. Use some WD-40 to penetrate the bolts. Use some elbow grease as well.
5Remove the exhaust you're going to replace. Remove them from the hangers and set all of your parts aside. You should now have all the piping removed and lots of rust all over you.
6If you have new hangers (recommended as stock ones are soft and old), cut the old ones off with some kind of cutting tool (dremel will work).
7Depending on the type of hangers your car has, put the new hangers onto the exhaust pieces first, this is usually an easier way to put the exhaust parts back on.
8Starting from the front of the car, hang the exhaust part up then bolt it onto the pipe before it, do not tighten all the way until you have all pieces on.
9If you don't have new gaskets to put between the pipe segments, either buy some new ones or you can use the old ones if they're the right diameter. Its best to have new ones to prevent exhaust leaks later.
10After all pipes are attached, start tightening each segment to the first. Use a good amount of torque on each bolt to make sure its tight.
11When you get to the back, take a few steps back and make any alignment adjustments you need so that the tailpipes are even with the bumper and look good.
12Double check and tighten all the bolts.
13Start the car up and locate any leaks you may have. HAVE FUN :)

Rwelsh, if you have a 3.8 you can't get an exhaust bov, that's for turbo models. With the 3.8, there are very few performance/engine modifications that are going to get you any "crazy" increase in horsepower other than turbo or supercharging; and then you're talking about $7-$10K minimum and that doesn't include having to upgrade your "internals".

About the most you can do legally is a CAI, a catback exhaust, PnP your intake manifold, pulleys, manifold and throttle spacers. Depending on where you live, you can also go with headers, downpipes and test pipes. Also there is what is known as a "flash or reflash" which is the reprogramming of your ECU to take into consideration your bolt-ons that you've done and make the car perform better.

Most of these things you can do yourself; that is why they are known as bolt-on's, but you should check around with other owners and see who they recommend as installers if you can't do it. And that my friend is it in a nutshell. ;)
