  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all

I have a 2011 Hyundai Genesis V8 and my issue is that the turn signals don't turn off when you go around the corner.

example: I want to turn right or left, i turn on the signal and it flashes as normal, i go around the corner and straiten the wheel and the turn signal continues to flash. it doesn't turn off. if i move the stalk manually the signal turns off.

What might be causing this?

is it a known issue on the car?

any factory recalls?

hopefully someone can give me some guidance.

Gareth

It has been years since I saw that in one of my cars. Usually it is a worn part in the steering column but I don't know how Genesis does it. You may want to see the dealer for this unless you know how to access the insides of the column.

Is it on all turns, including sharp turns?

it doesn't turn off for any turn, sharp or otherwise. you have to manually turn it off every time.
Back in the 1950's (and to some degree in the 60's), drivers used their arms as turn signals. Left turn was arm straight out window to the left parallel with the ground. Right turn was arm straight out with arm bent at the elbow and hand straight up. So just think how much better off you are now, even if your turn signals don't shut off by themselves.

For breaking, the left arm was placed out the drivers window pointing down.

Several years ago I had a similar problem with my '12 R-spec. When I signaled a right turn my headlights would go off. Dealer replaced signal stalk on steering column under warranty and problem has not reoccurred.

Its just gone dark outside so I took the car out and the lights appear to work without any issues.

I contacted the dealer and they said that a turn signal not cancelling isn't a known problem on the 2011 Genesis, but they could diagnose the issue for $140 and if required the new indicator stalks would be $400+. Therefore i expect the bill would be in the $600 range. I decided to have a go myself and remove the indicator stalk to do the diagnosis.

The indicator stalk and the windscreen wiper stalk are connected so both are removed at the same time. Once i had it apart i could see that a spring had come off, I put the spring back and re-installed the stalks and it all appears to working.

basic instructions: -
1. move the steering wheel all the way out. Remove the three screws that hold the steering wheel housing together
2. flip up the rear top of the housing for access to some of the internal clips and carefully pull the two halves of the housing apart.
3. Disconnect the car battery, Perhaps you should do this first.
4. remove two screws that hold the stalk assembly (on top)
5. carefully remove the stalk assembly, ease it past a clip on the top
6. remove the wire harness (press and pull)
7. now the whole stalk assembly is out and can be inspected.
