Turning Brake rotors on 2015 5.0?

Thanks. Did rear pads on an Odyssey tonight and took less than an hour. Glad to know sone things on my Genesis are easy.
 
Is it hard to Replace pads and rotors for the Genesis sedan? I have done it in a variety of vehicles and always found it straighforward. By the way, the brakes on my 2015 Genesis 5.0 are freaking awesome.

Wish I had just done mine myself. Still waiting on 1 rotor. Been in shop since Friday evening! Ridiculous.
 
I tend to do my own brakes also. I haven't had rotors resurfaced in a long time but I would only do it if I saw some minor grooves in the rotors. If my brakes were pulsing however then I will just replace them because that most likely means they are already warped somewhat, and I don't see how resurfacing will help that at all. Also, past experience with resurfacing warped rotors were not all that positive. I did learn how to be a little nicer to my brakes so that I do not warp them, or create what would be avoidable grooves in the rotors. :)

Basic question for anyone. I'm approaching 50K and would like to do the brake job myself (and, yes...I will do rotors at the same time....I've done about 8 brake jobs on different cars and it just isn't worth the time/money/concern not to do them).

I'm well aware pads go at a range of mileage levels depending on type of driving conditions. I'm 80% highway. At what mileage are people finding replacement necessary for front/back? I figure the dealer is going to gouge me for at least $800 on BS at my 50k. I don't want to hand him another $800 for something I can do for $400.

The answer to your question is it's much easier to pull a tire off and check for yourself than it is to estimate a mileage. If anything you can go by the remaining pad to tell your estimated wearout mileage.
 
If you've done eight brake jobs, you know the rears have less wear compared to the fronts. Inspect them but good chance you won't need to do anything to those.

If the front rotors aren't knacked up, why bother replacing them? My car has 45k on it and the rotors look new.

If you haven't already looked... Top of the line pads at RockAuto are $65 for an axle set. If you must replace rotors, you can get coated ones for $125 a set.

I suppose if you really know your vehicle, you can look at brake fluid reservoir to see how far down the level is.. Lower the level the less life left on pads.

Going by brake fluid level is risky as sometimes shops will top off fluid between visits without checking the brakes. It's much safer to check the top of the pads in the caliper to measure life as sometimes the caliper will be sticky and burn down one side faster.

I totally agree with you. The the best way is to pull a wheel and Visually look. And also some people don't realize that they should not add brake fluid. It is a closed system as you well know. The only time you should have to add is when there is a problem.
