  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

At first I was confused to see a CD player when I purchased the car. It didn’t take me long to realize the main benefit is to play uncompressed music. I’ve gotten so used to satellite and FM radio compressed signals. If you haven’t tried the CD player, give it a spin. The uncompressed fidelity is so much better.

What is this "CD" you speak of??

:)

I haven't spun one of those in ages. Spotify and BT streaming has been my go to music choice for a good long while now.

That's exactly why I've been trying to get Genesis to "repair" the audio system on my G80 Sport so it will play .flac files. The car I test drove played them, but mine never did. They've had it for 12 days now, so I hope they figure it out soon.

Dang, 12 days without a car just so you can hear a little bit better sound in your car??:oops:

I've got most, if not all of my CDs ripped onto my computer in flac format. Once Genesis gets my system working correctly, I can play them in my car via a USB stick, or copy (some of) them onto the Jukebox. It's a lot more convenient than carrying a pile of CD's around like it was 1990 again.

CD is that thing you put on the table in case your beer drips. You get them from AOL about once a week.

I do have some I took out of the last car and never put them in this one. I should do that as some of my favorite music is on them.

I've been using my CD player more often than USB lately. Most people don't know it's a DVD player that can play movies. The video shuts off when you're not in Park but the audio still plays. I ripped a bunch of DVD Audio tracks and burned a couple of discs to play in the car. They're all 24bit 96khz DTS 5.1.

All 6 channels are decoded and played properly. Most passengers are in awe when they hear Metallica or Depeche Mode in surround sound played in a car.

It plays video on the dash screen while in park?

It does for my 2015 5.0 Ultimate. Not sure about other systems. The DVD discs I created don't have video though, I couldn't find any tools that will let me author a DVD Audio disc so I basically created a DVD Video disc without video, just the DTS audio. I was able to fit about 70 songs on one disc.

I downloaded "HYUNDAI Motor DIS Navigation system" manual and it talks about mp3 and wma file formats but not Flac, so I'm not sure they will play without conversion. Also, since there is some background noise, even in a very quiet car like the Genesis, I wonder if you would be able to tell the difference between flac and a 320kbs mp3. I save tons of my music in Flac format and use a program called Lame Drop to convert them to MP3. Lame is one of the best mp3 encoders I've ever used and Lame Drop allows you to drag and drop the files to a small box to convert. Make sure you convert a copy of your files just in case the "Delete File When Done" box is checked.

I was planning on using a 200GB usb drive to leave in the car so I have a large selection of music to choose from, but the manual warns of possible damage to the usb drive when you start the engine. I don't want to plug and unplug the drive constantly and the possibility of forgetting to unplug when I get gas means I probably won't use it to play music. But a dvd full of MP3s is still a lot of music!

I doubt that the usb drive will ever get corrupted, It has never happened in 18 months in my G90 which has the same warning. But in any case drives are cheap. Just make a copy of the drive onto a second drive which you keep as a backup. Now you don’t have to ever worry about unplugging it when you stop. Best of all worlds.

Good to know, thanks.

I just tried a Fac file & MP3 file on a usb stick and Flac isn't recognized, but the MP3 file was. Next I tried a DVD with Flac files and again nothing was recognized, but a DVD with MP3s played fine. So Flac won't play on my car, a 2016 Genesis sedan, but a DVD with MP3s played fine and had 670+ songs, most above 192mbs. Winamp just showed that the total time on that disc is over 50 hours! CDs, DVDs, USB drives, Bluetooth phone and the jukebox giving me all the options for tunes is awesome! I'm not fond of subscriptions, so I don't have Sirius/XM enabled, and I'm not missing it.

I believe the FLAC files on a USB drive are only supported by the Lexicon system with the 17 speakers. I still have a Sirius subscription for another couple of months, but I probably won't renew it since I an now play all of my music--FLAC on the Jukebox or USB, or MP3 on some DVD's. Plus I have some audio DVD's for the full surround sound experience.
