  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi folks, i just bought ABRO undercoating spray, thinking to use it on wheel wells of my Genny, its written on it that its gonna decrease road noise. My question is that; can just an undercoating spray really do that job or its just a waste of time? Have any one tried that before any experiences? I will be thankful for your helps.

A good job of undercoating may help, but the Genesis is so quiet that you may not be able to tell the difference.

Years ago (50's) a lot of cars got undercoated when sold for a variety of reasons with the main one to reduce rust. On the 57 Ford I had, the undercoating started to peel off after a few years and made rusting worse as it trapped moisture against the steel parts.

How thick is this stuff? I mean any solid material is going to act as a sound barrier to a certain extent, but if it reduces noise by 1/10 of 1% are you going to notice?

This is a similar product by 3M and people generally seem happy about it. One guy noted a .5 to 2 db reduction in interior noise.

Its really time consuming, for undercoating wheelwells i got to remove tires then covering of wheel well so as to do undercoating, if the difference is not noticeable does it worth doing that?

Well, decibels increase with a logarithmic relationship to the perceive loudness of something (I just read about this, I'm no physicist). So, a reduction of 2db is the equivalent of halving (I think??) the loudness. It might be worth if you really coat it down.

Actually, the consensus is that a person can hear a difference in loudness with a jump of at least 3db. A jump of 6db is supposed to sound twice as loud. However, it is all subjective and different for every person.
