  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have an unusual sound from the front passenger side tire sometime. It sounds like as though the tire is not spinning but being dragged. It only happens for a couple of seconds at a time. It happens randomly and is more likely to happen when driving uphill and turning than on a straight road. It also more likely to happen at a lower speed than at a higher speed. The tire are a very reputable brand and have about 20k miles on them.

I have checked the wheel and suspension by jacking the car up and didn't find anything loose or worn out. The wheel spins freely and does not have any play. I had the four lower control arms replaced because a shop said that wheel alignment was not possible w/o replacing them. But it turns out to be a scam that I fell for.

Wondering if anyone has had this kind of sound issue. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds more like a bearing than a tire.

A few things come to mind:
1. Brake pad wear indicator squealing.
2. Loose lug nut(s).
3. Bad wheel bearing as EdP says.
4. Brake pad drag on the brake disk.
5. Loose strut bolts or other suspension component fasteners.

Thank you both for your input. I have checked # 1, 2 and 4 previously and none of those seem to be the case. If it were bad bearing it would have smoked by now I think. I have driven the vehicle a couple f thousand miles since the sound started. Possibly #5. I guess it's time to take it in. Researching a non-dealership shop.

My experiences (non Genesis car, in this case) differ. I had one go tens of thousands of miles before it was loud enough that it had to go. It still hadn't "smoked" when I replaced it, it was just very noisy.
Of course, this is not to say that it couldn't be something else.

Not from my experience.

Thank you EdP and joegr. That's good to know. I had thought that once a bearing goes it goes fast.

Btw, the sound is very much like a horse snorting. I released that when i was watching the movie Hidalgo. :)
