  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This past Friday I went out in Baltimore with a buddy. I reset the mpg calculator right when I got onto 95 North.

I did the 65 mph speed limit the entire way and when the limit hit 55 (right before all the B'more exits) I stayed at 60 mph. From when I got on 95N to when I stopped at the light on Conway when you enter the downtown area, my average was 35mpg!

Then there were a bunch of lights and such getting to Fells Point. At the end of the night, it can be a bitch getting out of Baltimore. You'll be sitting at lights and/or in traffic for a while as everyone leaves the bars/clubs and plus there was a late Raven's game that night. But even with all of that, the entire trip (to Baltimore and back home in Columbia) I averaged 29mpg!

The fact that they increased the 3.8's horsepower while simultaneously increasing its fuel efficiency is one of the most unheralded aspects of the awesome design Hyundai has implemented in their luxury line. I'm loving this car!

The MPG calculator seems to be overly optimistic when it is first reset, but eventually is more accurate after driving for a long ways (but the intial optimism is still part of the overall calculation).

There is nothing unusual about increasing HP and MPG at the same time. If fact, it would be hard not to, given that the displacement is the same as the old engine. By the same token, the Tau V8 has more HP and better MPG when running with premium fuel as compared to regular (the V6 is designed to run only on regular). If the same engine is tuned to have more HP and you are driving at the same speed as before, it is logical that you will get better MPG.

Dumb question.....How do you reset the MPG Calculator?

With the MPG calculator displayed, press and hold the reset button on the steering wheel.

Another Stupid Question .....Where exactly is the reset button on the Steering Wheel?

Uh, it's the button that says "reset"....on the steering wheel.

Do you have the Premium package? It's on the right hand side. There's three buttons. Display, Trip and Reset.

That would explain it. To the owner's manual! :)

I have the Tech Package and my 3 Buttons are Smart Cruise Adjust - Trip - And Disp --- Mine is completely Different.

the same button location, but ours (sorry, thinking i still own this beautiful vehicle :() says "Disp"

the top button on the right is the adaptive cruise distance selector, the middle is the "Trip" button and the bottom right side is as described above ("Disp")

God I miss this car!!!

For the v8, you just hold down the display button to reset.

Thanks! - That worked. Don't recall seeing that in the Owners Manual. It also resets the Elapsed Time and Average Speed.
