  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This past Thursday I contacted Jim Ellis, spoke to the Sales Manager to purchase a 2015 G2 5.0 Ultimate. I did speak with the Sales manager that morning and got a verbal deal. I requested images and to have a sales person to describe the scent inside the cabin, (i was planned to have the vehicle shipped.

He called later that morning so I can fill a Financial Application, to see If I can get a better rate than my Credit Union. I did complete it. He mentioned that The Financial Manager would get in touch with me.

Later that afternoon, I received the external images but not inside the cabin. The sales associate stated that the vehicle was locked and would not be able to obtain the keys until tomorrow.

I called the Sales Manager earlier that evening. He was reluctant in me putting a deposit and to request the Finance Manage overnight the packet. Stating that he is waiting to get the cabin image and smell before he went further.

That evening I finally got in touch with the Financial Manager, roughly 9pm. He wanted my D/L and Insurance card. He mentioned when he gets additional information from the sales manager he will than overnight the documents to me.

The next day, Friday. I sent the Sales Manager an email. To get the images and hand over the required information to the Finance manager before noon.

An hour later, a sales associate contacted me, requesting if theirs anything he can do, I requested images and to have the sales manager provide documents to the finance manager.

I finally received the second set of images at 2pm.

The finance manager sent over the warranty information about 4:40pm. He also called but I was not available. I made multiple attempts to contact the finance manager trying to understand the warranty document.

At 7:10 I received a voicemail from the sales manager with the sales associate stating that they attempted to contact me, but they were unable to get a hold of me so they sold the vehicle. My phone logs did not indicate a missed call between 4:40 and 7:10.

Saturday Morning, I called the dealership requesting to speak to the sales manager for an explaination. The manager told the receptionist if its me who is calling, that he is talking to a customer and will get back in touch. He never did.

I requested to talk to, and did talk to the Finance Manager. He explained that a customer came in from a different state to purchase the vehicle. He also stated that if I saw a different vehicle on the site, to provide the stock number and they will work on another deal.

I provided a stock number to the Sales Manger and Finance Manager via email. They did not provide a deal. The price was the same as the website. I later reply, if they can provide any additional incentive, as this car was a different color.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Sorry.

Its definitely frustrating. Especially search for another like it; white, Black interior, low mileage.

Sounds just like the issue I had with a Dodge dealership that was going to sell me a Charger Hellcat. Had a verbal agreement, was going to sell the car to me at sticker price over the phone.

Long story short, some idiot came in with $15K over sticker and they sold it to him. There will be other G2 5.0s, goodluck in your search man.

There are at least 150 2015 or 2016 G2s on Hyundai's CPO site right now.

The OP must be a newcomer to the car buying world. This happens every day at every dealer. The buyer who signs the contract wins the race to buy a specific car. For example, when I bought my Santa Fe there was another guy drooling over it, but his wife "just wanted to see what Mitsubishi had" before they signed the contract. I stepped in as they went out the door and they were promptly SOL.

You live and you learn. What more can you do? It's unfortunate but don't lose hope - you'll find another Genesis...

I purchased my car from them and had the opposite experience. The best service i ever had! Dealerships in NY are junk with rude people. Jim Ellis was excellent to work with.
Btw they have a huge location and they are really very busy.

While I can certainly see that this is a frustrating experience for you, from the dealers perspective (I am not a dealer, work for a dealer or in any way affiliated with one) they did the right thing.

They had a person putting money on the table vs. someone who seemed interested but had made no commitment (down payment).

I've had a similar experience years ago, and I wasn't mad at the dealer because by the time I had made my decision, someone else had put money on the table (list price too) for the car I had looked at for a little while.

There are plenty of other Genesii out there to chose from, so I wish you the best of luck finding the one you want.

I also purchased a 400 mile 2015 G2 5.0 Ultimate over the internet from them over Labor Day. Bought a one way ticket for $49 to Atlanta after giving them a credit card deposit to hold the car over the weekend. My salesman picked me up from the airport, drove me back to the dealership and an hour or so later I was driving back to St. Louis in my new car. Outstanding experience from start to finish and even got a free map upgrade out of the deal (which they sent via FedEx a week or two after purchase). When I was shopping 2 months ago they had about half dozen 2015 5.0 Ultimate CPO's with <500 miles in stock, all in the $38-39K range. I'm sure there are more out there, just gotta know when to pull the trigger when you have a good deal (I was working with a dealership in Dallas at the same time and they wouldn't budge off of a $40K price for the same car, so I didn't hesitate and put down a deposit sight unseen).

Totally agree about the dealerships in NY, I dislike my local Hyundai dealer up there.

I was just thinking about going into Jim Ellis Hyundai in a few months to look at a G80/90 and have a dealership for local-ish service for my 16 Genesis.

I actually just bought a new GMC Sierra 2500 from Jim Ellis GMC over the summer and it was an easy/smooth(er) transaction than any car that I've bought in NY/NJ, so it was surprising reading that the OP had a bad experience with their sister dealership.

I'll have to go see for myself and make a decision.
